Graduation Date problem

Hey all,

I am a junior and have an offer for this summer but don't want to go to the firm full-time. I added a minor, which pushed my expected graduation date back to Dec 2020 instead of May 2020. My school added classes for my minor, so I can still (and want to) graduate in may 2020, but a very prestigious buy-side firm is recruiting me for summer 2020 assuming my expected graduation date is still Dec 2020. Since at the time I talked to the recruiter, dec 2020 was going to be my graduation date. The firm is flying me out to their office so I can meet their employee's/group and interview, but if I don't get an offer, would it be unethical if I still graduate in May 2020?

I can still graduate on time with the minor now, but not sure if the company I’m interviewing with will blacklist me if I don’t graduate in dec instead of may

 

No. You’re maximizing your outcomes. If this prestigious firm gives you an offer, drop the minor. The marginal benefit (“MB”) of a position with the prestigious firm is greater than the MB of the minor.

I didn’t explain it well enough. I’m going to graduate on time right now, but at the time I talked to the recruiter, my expected graduation date was 1 semester late, giving me the chance at the internship at the prestigious firm. But since I’m going to graduate on time, is it unethical to still visit there office knowing that if I don’t get an offer, I won’t graduate lately
