Guidance Please on how to get past this hurdle and get into IB
I am trying to figure out how to get my foot into the door of IB at a Major/Boutique firm. But have had little to no success in doing so.
I went to community college for engineering transfered to a four year university(Not top tier at all) and worked along doing engineering to a lil over the half way mark all while operating a small business with my partner. Until the economic downturn slowed business I decided to change my major to finance and take school head on. I ultimately lost most of my credits due to a complete major transfer but I still graduated with in 1 and half years(5 in total) after tswitching due to 6,7,8 class semesters(graduated with 3.3). I have done a few internships sparingly over my college career(non banking related). Now that I have graduated I put in numerous applications(to which none I have even received a call back). I am wondering why is this happening to me? Is it because of my school? GPA? No related work experience?
I am 23 and have had prior success in my personal business engagements that required for me to be very personable and able to find a connection with people quickly. I am knowledgeable enough to handle technical questions on an interview. I just need help making the proper adjustments to getting a call back.
As well I am taking my CFA level 1 in june and I know recruiting season is coming to a close soon. What is a recommended move to take If i do not get an offer.(intern or work at a middle market firm, work for retail brokerage and get Series 7, etc..)
I attached a copy of my resume(minus my personal information at the top) to view if it may help identify my weak spot(s).
Thanks in advance.
GPA is a bit low especially not at top tier. Resume could use some serious formatting.
If you've got charisma, try applying to retail PWM. Look at ML, MS, Northwestern Mutual, and boutiques.
