How are percentiles for Bloomberg Aptitude Test determined?
After looking through the Hall of Fame, I found that there is no consistency between the score and percentiles. Does anyone know how the percentiles are determined?
Also, does it show on your profile or unmasked profile how many times you took the test?
Does anyone put their scores/percentiles on their resume? Which section do you include it under? Thanks in advance!
No one really cares about the BAT (so I've heard). At best it literally shows you know how to use a Bloomberg terminal - I had no real idea how to navigate one and still got a SA and FT offer in IB.
Doesn't involve use of the terminal at all, just multiple choice questions.
It's a standard percentile divided up by year. So in any given year the distribution might change meaning the same score in different years will yield different percentiles. And I don't think the exam carries that much weight at all, I hear it's pretty easy. Like I know a freshman who scored in the 87th percentile and he doesn't know shit.
And all your scores are masked and individual as well. So they can only see your individual scores in each section.
And I know a friend who includes it on his resume under achievements. But he scored 99th percentile, I'm not sure I would include it below 90%.

I did mine two days ago and scored 660 in the 98th percentile. When reviewing the wall of fame, a score of 640 from April was in the 99th percentile, so I thought there might be variation depending on the version of the exam?
I wanted to retake the test to see if I can do better, but it seems like the BAT is not that important. So thanks for the tip!
I don't think any big firms recruit for good positions with it. Mostly for back office stuff. Scored in the 99th percentile, have gotten many requests, but nothing worth pursuing. Hall of fame varies by test.

There are a few interesting opportunities I've seen from the BAT, although it depends on what you're interested in. I have yet to receive blue chip corp. fin. or BB/EB or even MM IB/ER/S&T opportunities. However, if you''re trying to build towards one of those positions, some of the opportunities have looked ok.
edit: although I have no basis for the claim I doubt you'll get better opportunities if you're in the 99th vs 98th percentile
This. They usually do not search by your entire score. Rather, they search by your score in certain categories. Get a really good score in 3 categories but score in the 60th percentile, and you'll likely get the same opportunities as someone in the 99th percentile.
