Internship and Sales and Trading
I am a freshman at mediocre business school and did not get a Sales and Trading internship for this summer. I was wondering when I should try and start pursuing an internship for the summer of 2011 and also am wondering what are the work schedules like for a Sales and Trading job? Do they work every day of the week, every week of the year or do they get time off?
Many freshman do a Private Wealth Management internship freshman summer. These are not too competitive to get and can be set up by calling an office in/near your hometown and asking for an interview. It's not sales and trading, but will build a little bit of credibility and interest into your resume.
S&T days/hours vary by desk, but you should expect about 12 hour days 5 days a week with days off corresponding to the normal market holiday schedule. This differs for fixed income (bonds) and the more familiar stock market (equities).

Ah, Thanks a lot. I will start calling places all around to see if they have a Private Wealth Management internship this summer.
Anything finance/investments related will get you off to a strong start. Just make sure you do something of value over the summer.
yea do pwm with a local office, or, see if you can get an unpaid internship at an investment bank somewhere, try middle markets and reach out to anyone you may know, an internship like that will def. set you apart going into recruting next summer and it will be more valuable than cold calling good luck!
Do you think it is too late to try and get an internship for this summer, even if it is a bottom of the barrel unpaid internship?
