Even if started on TN, they still need to apply for your H1B.

If they need to apply for your H1B lottery the answer is yes. And annoyingly even companies with 2 year program for example won’t hire you if they have a no sponsorship policy.

I am not Canadian so don’t know exact details but have friends who worked on TN (all EBs). But have heard it is getting tougher as the category is economist and specifically says jobs like banking don’t count. And even if bank changes the description, if your coursework has no economics, you get rejected. There’s another accounting category which might be easier.

There are other immigration workarounds. If you start in a non profit, you get H1B without a lottery. Can transfer your visa after you change companies (but don’t know the specifics)

I have seen dudes get green cards through religious visa and all that crap.
Or the most simple, “fall in love” and marry an American.

That’s pretty much most of my college classmates did cause my undergrad field allowed only US persons to work in the industry.

Heard also CPT day one where people go do bullshit masters programs unrelated to their field which are easy that allow them to work on CPT Day 1 to stay in the US. Have you heard of that angle?

Can you explain this one a bit further," If you start in a non profit, you get H1B without a lottery." You're saying its certain that you'd get H1B iif you work non-for-profit?

I'm guessing your friends are at Evercore, they seem to be the most sponsorfriendly bank for Canadians. Did TN specifically say now that banking doesn't count?
