Masters with no work experience?

I’m a 2nd Year undergrad at a top UK school (one of Oxbridge, LSE) and didn’t secure any summers.

I’d like to do a Masters in Finance for 2 reasons: 1) wait out the recession and hopefully enter a better job market, 2) get another chance at SA recruiting.

However, a lot of schools I’ve had a look at require professional relevant work experience and even the ones that don’t ask for CVs, so I’m assuming people with work experience will have more competitive applications.

Will I struggle to get into a good Masters program without any work experience? Even the ones that don’t require it?

Thanks

Doing a masters program with the purpose of waiting out a recession or having another chance to recruit for jobs is not the most practical approach. Focus on learning and understanding finance, building analytical skills, networking and taking on relevant internships in the meantime. It's a large investment to pay for another 1-2 years of school just to get the chance to be a summer intern again.

The reason a lot of people do masters in finance is because they have no ib experience or they didn't convert their summers. In your application essays you just have to spin it to say that you had a career change and now want to go in IB, and a masters in finance from (LSE?) would give you the perfect opportunity for this etc.Make sure you are looking at the correct masters, you should be looking at pre-experience masters. Some masters are designed for people with work experience, typically 2+ years. The main thing to have is a good GMAT and a reason why you want to do a masters. The work experience is not that much of an issue, as if you had a summer and converted it you probably wouldn't be applying for a masters in the first place. Doing a masters because it allows you to apply for SA again and it will allow you to place in a BB is a valid reason and it won't hinder you.
