Merrill Lynch WM vs Chernobyl Sanitize Team

I've applied to Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Summer Analyst Programme in London and I'm trying to get a better understanding of what I'll be doing as an intern.

Reading previous post on the subject it seems like I'm better off sanitizing Chernobyl or clear the dung out on some remote farm.

People wrote that friends left after just a couple of weeks.

So my question is: What does a day look like for a summer intern at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, and why is it so bad?

Thanks in advance!

It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. If you could provide additional detail, perhaps we could help out a bit more.

As a summer intern, you're going to be working with an advisor. You'll be doing a lot of grunt work, making cold calls, etc. If you have a chance to sit in a client meeting (highly unlikely) that'll be a “bonus” because I’d say those are rare at that level.

If this is your freshman year internship, go for it. You can use the experience, have a name brand on your resume, and perhaps leverage the ML network into a different position down the line. If this is a junior year internship, you should be aiming a lot higher....

Of course, with Chernobyl you get some international experience and shows a commitment to the global community. Of course the downside is radiation sickness, but for that big of a resume boost, it could be worth it!

It will be what you make of it. Essentially, there won't be a whole lot of deliverable work, but you can learn a sensational amount about the markets through the people you work for. It will set you up for IB recruiting as well, because the brand is universally recognizable. That being said, you will have to do a ton of supplemental work on an individual basis (networking, financial modeling self-study, ECs) in order to get solid looks...

All in all I would take it if you have the option between that and Ops, or that and any other lower tier asset/investment management opportunities, but an unpaid internship with a boutique would give you better experience for IB if you have the means to work for free...
