My interview ratio to jobs applied is really really low
So far my interview ratio to jobs applied for is 1% (3% if you include phone interviews). (I have applied to over 150 jobs).
I know applying for a job posting is a low yield strategy, but I feel like I might be doing something wrong when I apply. I am a good candidate for about 50 - 60+ jobs and a strong candidate for at least 20 (based on the job description and me having all the Prerequisites). Especially in situations where they are looking for experience in a certain sector (which I have). I am applying to mostly analyst position (buy-side and sell-side), as well as IBanking, and various other capital market positions.
I know networking is really where it's at and I am doing that as well. But I am just wondering if I am running on the downside of variance or if this is standard (or its just these market conditions). I am in Toronto, Canada if that changes things.
What type of response rates are other people finding they get? What type of response rates did you get in the past?
Start talking to people, not throwing your resume into black holes.
My ratio is also low as well. We're going to make it, some way, somehow.
Mine is very low as well I haven't kept track though and just focused on the next opportunity

By applied, what do you mean? Linkedin and job sites etc?
Those places have ridiculous odds. They removed the feature now but when they had it, I saw hundreds of applications for every job posting. I must have applied to about 50 places. I had only 1 phone screen and was rejected immediately.
Agreed. My ratio for applying to the list of over 200 IB's for IB Analyst Roles and ER Associate Roles is horrendous. If you include jobs outside of the industry, including those I've applied to randomly, on monster/efinancialcareers/indeed or other job boards, as well as LinkedIn the ratio gets a tad bit better.
I've had the same question about applying online, because with the number of applications I've sent out (over 350), I'm surprised to not hear back from a few more.
Goodluck
To be honest your chances of standing outside of a bank brewing good fresh coffee and handing it out to bankers on their way to work has better odds than applying online. Everyone who is hired has applied online, but they only did that because it is a check box requirement. I would venture to say that 99.5% of them got their interviews through networking. There was a guy not to long ago that handed out coffee in front of the bank and got a job by doing so.
Are you still in school or looking for work. I have been told that the longer the gap on your resume harder to get interviews.
I am looking for work. Been graduated for 6 months now. I'm starting to get a little desperate and I have widened my job search parameters. Although, I really don't want to do back office work, knowing that I will likely not get back from there.
I am getting frustrated and still trying to access if there is something that I am doing wrong/not doing.
