Networking Tips for Semi-Target

I know this is probably one of the most common questions asked on this forum, but what exactly is the best way to network? I currently go to a school that isn’t quite a semi-target (well represented but not quite sure how well). With that being said, what’s the wisest way to create a legitimate connection with alumni/people at the firms of interest?

Semi-Target is your answer. Well represented means there should be plenty of people for you to reach out to. They know your pain they went through the same thing. That's where you start and build the relationship, then go on from there.

It'll help you if you start off this networking game early. More important, try to be rememberable in a good way and build a personal connection. How can you do that? Ask them questions like - how do they look back at their college days, any fond memories, what would they be doing if they were in your positions. Don't ask all the questions that you have right up front - leave some for later.

this is awesome advice, thank you! I’ve always wondered how professional the conversation has to be - thought it would be cool to actually try and get to know the person lol

Is there a superior medium for networking? How would you rank the upilside of networking through email, LinkedIn, and over the phone?
I say this because I’ve connected with quite a few alum at BBs on LinkedIn, but don’t really know where/how to get the conversation started
