new user- need direction!
Hi everyone- I'm a long time lurker, first time poster and wanted some general career direction. I'm a current senior at a Cal State University( I know I'm not landing hedge fund jobs with this school) with a non traditional path as a Political Science major. I have worked through out college (by choice) as a assistant budget analyst at a national lab, and for four years as a data manager/ client services rep at a boutique investment firm with around 100 million in assets. However I was not involved in complex analysis or handled any money.
Trying to predict my career path and to stay in line with my major, I have been working for a political consulting firm which specializes in campaign marketing, budget and policy analysis, and strategy. However the world of politics is not as I imagined, and the good paying consultants don't start 100k+ jobs until they manage 50+ campaigns- I'm not sure I have that in me.
My question is, as a non quant major, but with finance and budget experience how could I market myself for possible analyst jobs at smaller firms or funds? I live in San Francisco, and there are lots of finance jobs in the area. I am 25, considering graduate school, and have taken the GRE (163) and GMAT (670) one time each. I have been trying to take quant heavy classes to improve my overall resume with accounting, econ, decision science, ect ect. Also have a 3.7 overall gpa, 4.0 major gpa, and 4.0 for my last 60 units. I also have A's in my quant classes- stats, econ, bus statistics..
Any general direction for my situation would be greatly appreciated!
