Oslo vs Stockholm

Oslo vs. Stockholm – any thoughts on that?

I understand that most US banks are based in Sweden, but I’m curious about which city would be the better choice when it comes to local banks.

Also, do you have any info to compare salary levels, cost of living, and safety between the two? Safety, in particular, is a concern for me.

Salary is pegged to London, cost of living is lower in Stockholm. Stockholm is larger than Oslo, more to do.

Salaries equal or lower compared to Stockholm (less competition) and significantly higher COL. Economically, there’s no reason to choose Oslo over Stockholm.

Better WLB in Oslo though

EDIT: Stockholm is more fun in terms of city life, Oslo is much closer to nature och gives the opportunity to experience a pretty crazy wildlife just outside of town. So depends on what you value

Thank you Just when looked online the rent was way higher in Stockholm Ostermalm vs equivalent area in Oslo….

True but honestly, I think Östermalm sucks - there’s much better areas to live in that are cheaper. Also, it’s quite easy to buy something in Stockholm after your first bonus (if you don’t have the money) which will make your living cheaper.

With that aside, rent is quite crazy in Stockholm but you also have to factor in costs for everything else. Food, beverage, groceries, taxi, clubbing, everything is extremely expensive there. I work at a Norwegian IB in Stockholm, but travel to Oslo quite frequently and it always makes me wonder how people manages to live a good life there on just their base.

Matter of personal choice, since you are planning to work in a local bank prestige is not in the question
