Signed offer at BB, contact MD about switiching divisions?

Hello Folks.

So after my summer in Ops at a BB, I landed a full time offer in deriv ops as a Traders Assistant

I accepted in October, however over the past 2 months I have grown restless.. and I am trying to figure out how to move to a FO Fixed Income group

During my internship, I worked extremely close with an MD who was very high up in Ops at the BB.. I have a great relationship with this person, and was wondering what everyone thought about me contacting her for help in switching to the FO Fixed Income group.

Before everyone thinks I'm crazy, let me just say that during my SA she suggested I look FO, and helped me lock down a TA job to position myself for FO down the road..

Cheers

I would say wait a year, keep in touch, and then make your move.

Gekko, you're a legend. thank you for your quick response..

Do you still think I should wait a year given that the FO Fixed Income group has a 2yr analyst program, manned mainly by recent grads?

Since you waited so long and the MD who is helping you is Ops and not and MD on a desk you want to transfer to, I think it is important to stick with it for at least a year to not bail on her and show disrespect. You had your opportunity right when the internship ended, but I personally think you missed the boat now. Wait a year, get great performance reviews, and then show her those performance reviews and look to transfer then.

Thanks again for the response. I have a feeling I missed the boat as wel, and definitely don't want to end up disrespecting her.

I appreciate your advice, and I think I will give it a year, do my best, and make my move.

Cheers.
