Hi all,
I interviewed with a big tech firm a few weeks ago about a summer gig, i did well on the phone interview, so they brought me in a few weeks later and I interviewed with the product engineer and his boss. pretty much wrecked the interview, and they offered me the position on the spot, which i accepted.
fast forward to today, and i get an email from a HR guy who said that due to budget issues, they can't bring me on.
i guess my question is, what should i say back? i really want to work there, and would like an offer post grad (i'm a junior), but i want to say something along the lines of 'you're a fucking joke get back to me when you have your shit straight.'
anyone been in a similar position? how did it end up?
oh, i should also mention that this is for a technical position, not anything to do with finance at all.
Had this similar situation happen to me in undergrad. While your knee jerk reaction is to send a "fuck you" email or be rude, I would guess that the field is likely similar to finance in that everybody knows everybody. Bite your tongue, be polite and stay in contact in hopes of the position opening up upon graduation
Lol, I made this mistake once I would ignore the impulse to. As tempting as it is, don't want to risk your reputation and most importantly you never know who you are going to cross paths with in your career.

ehhh it depends on the size of the firm. If it is a big tech firm, I find it hard to believe that "budget issues" are the reason they cant bring on a summer intern. If thats the case however, pitch to them that you'll do it for free. Get creative
Offer to do it for free, or move on. The firm may be having cash flow problems and might even be in the tough spot of having to let a few people go.
Thank them for the consideration (as much as you want to lose your sht) and keep an active dialogue going so that you can hopefully slide in at a later time.
the 'group' (for lack of a better term) i interviewed with recently got bought by the parent company. i think it might actually be a budget issue as things get ironed out, but this makes me think maybe if i press hard, i can still get the job. and unfortunately, as of now working without pay isn't an option as i need to pay rent, buy food, etc.
Its always an option if your hungry and your willing to grind. I interned unpaid for a summer and bartended on weekends until 2 am to pay my rent/food
Get in touch with the guy(s) who you interviewed you and bring up the situation. Say thanks blah blah and say if anything comes up, you would like to be considered. HR are sometimes quick to forget such things.
