Would love a little encouragement
Hey all,
This post is mostly to vent/hope I'm worthy of some encouragement.
Just a little bit of background on me: 3.7 in the top finance program at a reputable school, one banking internship, one in investment management, one in PE, well-rounded CV, solid extracurriculars... I have so far failed to secure a FT position. Haven't been this down in a while. I just got a negatory from the last of my 2nd round interviews that I had gotten. I do have a pretty extensive network, but when I contact anyone, often leads to a "done hiring," "contact this person," etc... I'm not so sure what to do at this point... My background/life has been super fortunate but I can't help but feel really helpless right now in regards to the job-hunt.
Anyone care to share a pearl of wisdom or something?
keep going, its a numbers game. You have to get through so many "no"s in order to reach the offer. However, past performance doesn't guarantee an offer- you might want to make sure your approach is refined. Reach out to someone and get critiqued on your technique-see what they think.
Look in Asia, there's much hiring there relative to the US/Europe.
Look at industry?
If you haven't already looked, try some financial advisory/ risk positions within consulting firms. You can broaden your net. After a couple years of building your skill set and resume, you can leverage your way into a bank or an MBA if you want.
Thanks for the insights bredanjoyce. And everyone, ya, at this point I'm applying to almost every posted job, but my CV is so clearly geared towards finance. I will apply to whatever consulting/industry positions are available. @bbjhva- would I be qualified given that I don't speak any relevant languages? do you suggest that I apply online or via what pathway? again, I appreciate the responses
dude keep going, you'll get there. back when i was unemployed i had a resume response rate of probably 5%. i used to think i was a good at interviewing, but my confidence was shattered after interviewing at the consulting branch of a Big 4. the director who was giving me a case interview basically told me i was retarded... hahaha.
with a 3.7 at a great school and solid internships (more than i can say for myself), i'm sure your luck will change.
ExtenZe.
