Ghibli interior has parts from a $16k Dodge Dart. Not worth the money IMO. Use the cash to enjoy your senior year at whatever school you're at.

No.

Assuming that you'll be in NYC, will be living solely off the analyst compensation, and don't have a rich family that doesn't make you a douche. It makes a moron.

"Attack_Chihuahua" No.

Could not agree more with attack hound. Would also add that affording the sticker price is a portion of the cost... affording the maintenance is a whole new world of hurt. Maserati's (like all Italian cars) are very temperamental. Take fiat for instance, it's actually an acronym for: Fix It Again Tony! Oh... and unsurprisingly Maserati is owned by FIAT Chrysler Automobiles "FCA."

Without a lengthy diatribe, I know someone who didn't consult his WSO elders before prematurely purchasing his Italian sports car. He sold it year later for a loss of $10-15k after it was in the shop every month. So far you've taken the correct steps by asking for a second opinion.

Please continue on your path of righteousness and heed our warnings.

If you're in New York, you're going to need to factor in the cost of parking, and it just seems silly to pay for a $40k car + hundreds a month in parking + never being able to use it. Let's be real, you'll either be hanging out in the city, drinking (so no driving), or working. Not really useful. If that's the case, then it really looks like you're buying that car for signaling, which I would probably label "douchey".

I think regardless of where you live, though, it would probably signal to your company that either a) you are blowing all your money (even though you may have this carefully calculated) or b) you're a spoiled rich kid (even though that may not be the case), and I think people may brand you negatively on that basis. Same deal if you're a first-year analyst coming in with a $40k watch.

Also, I like how this post is in the IB category as if the douchiness of buying a Maserati couldn't pertain to any other industry

Personally, I would wait until I had a FT position and was established in my lifestyle before springing for a new car. I am bigger fan of saving rather than spending.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.

Fun fact. Maserati is owned by fiat Chrysler (NYSE:FCAU). They also own Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and (up until recently), Ferrari.

So the switchgear on the new Maseratis are lifted straight from the Chrysler 300, and the infotainment system has the same shape as a Dodge Dart (a car cheaper than a Corolla). Lots of mechanical components (front suspension, transmission, etc) also from Chrysler.

My point is, don't buy expensive cars from the FCAU family. Buy a car that's mechanically unique and doesn't whore out its components from/to other cars.

this video sums it up perfectly if you're paying premium dollar for a car, you don't want to share switchgear with a dart/200 (both so awful they were discontinued) will be interesting to see how jeep builds their range rover competitor

Nah, but it would make you seem like someone trying too hard to show off what little money they have. There's luxury and then there's fake luxury, Ghibli is the latter. A used Corvette Z06 costs just a few grand more. Get that instead.
