Any monks here?
The benefits of meditation have been widely discussed, with more and more studies claiming life-changing benefits to those who practice (self-control, mental clarity, etc). I know it supposedly takes many months if not years of consistent “meditation“ to unlock these benefits, but I’m wondering if anyone here has actually reached that promised land? If so does anyone have any practical tips on how to get there for someone who’s meditation practice is maybe a guided podcast once a quarter?
I literally clicked on the topic thinking this was thread discussing the career option of former monks lol. Dominicans are more prestigious than Benedictians, btw. And SJs more than the two.
Vatican IPO?
Lot of assets to be sure, long history of great performance, high goodwill (though materially reduced in certain markets due to bad conduct), non-flexible but highly competent line of command, legally guaranteed cash flow in many markets (think tithe, etc). IPO will be priced competitevely and offered on multiple markets at once.
Lmao thanks for the ranking, will keep in mind. it was between that and anyone good at meditation? figured the former was funnier but will see if it attracts the intended crowd.
Most resourceful OP ever! seeking monks on WSO - just curious where you seek out nuns... in strip bars?
Only from target/semi target strip clubs. They make for the most interesting nuns.
Nowadays, Africa and SAmerica, mostly.
Curious about this too. While the anti materialist values or whatever that are inherent in most spiritual philosophies certainly don’t fit with the stereotypical douchebag finance lifestyle, it seems like the benefits of meditation could be valuable for people facing the kind of pressure and stress that comes with the industry.
A lot of notable high level business figures seem like they are into alternative lifestyle stuff like Steve Jobs being outspoken about using psychedelics or jack dorsey doing his insane daily routine lol. I’d bet this kind of stuff is pretty common behind closed doors.
Not amino by any stretch but I do enjoy meditating. I actually prefer to meditate through yoga (it’s great because it enhances my flexibility and activates the core). For me purely mental meditation is great to relax but i’m much more ~zen~ when my whole body feels good.
Try to do it every day. Like even for 10 minutes just before bed or in the morning before your day starts. It can change your whole outlook on the day. And probably the most important thing is to do it with an empty mind. It’s very easy to bring your stresses into the session and ruin your practice. So try to put those on pause for 10-15 minutes and only worry about yourself and how you feel in your body. Definitely tough to do when you have a lot going on but it will drastically improve your mental clarity and overall sense of self imo
I’ve tried a few diff ones. Calm, Headspace, Sam Harris, TM class.
All worked fine but for me nothing has worked better than just sitting there listening to my breathing for a few minutes. There’s a guy named Light Watkins with a lot of YouTube videos, he says the same thing.
Best advice I can give is that if you do just 5 minutes a day it helps. I aim for 20 but if you think you need 20 you’ll skip too many days. 5+ min a day, every day is key.
