Anyone here financially support their parents?

Seeking advice from other professionals on the subject. Parents have always been shit with money. Lost house , employment, in 2008 recession and never recovered so my entire adult life has been paycheck to paycheck for them. As they get older and can no longer work min wage jobs I just know it’s going to become an issue

I’m torn though. On one hand I don’t want to repeat their mistakes with my own family I plan on starting soon, and need to make sure we are financially secure before being charitable. On the other hand , they are family. There’s also a big caveat that they’ve always had a big gambling problem together (part of reason why they are in this mess) and despite being broke still go to casinos weekly. This has been a constant my entire life, as a kid I used to hang out in casino gift shops while they went and gambled lol so any money is at risk of being borderline enablement

Stressed about this because I’ve always been frugal as fuck as a response to everything. Driving a beater car for decades, living well below means, etc just to give away money that will be burned at a slot machine makes my skin crawl.

thought about buying a cheap house for them and being a landlord so get some kind of return instead of them spending any donations on rent, but really haven’t vetted it seriously enough. I know posters here can be similar in age (30s-40s) so interested to hear any experiences
