Are You an “Active” Alumni?

I graduated a few years ago and I still go from time to time to reunions with people from my school. I do it because it’s fun mostly but also I admit because the networking is amazing. You get to see friends (or at least acquaintance) that work in a lot of different areas.

My class is still quite young (7 years since graduation) so no one is a famous CEO yet and I mainly use those connexions to find internships for family/friends or to get someone I know an interview. In a few years from now though I think someone in my class could hire me as a CFO for his/her company or become a client of the firm I work for…

So my questions are: Are you still active in your class, going to meetings, keeping in touch and all? Are you class president (after you class left school I mean) and do you think it is worth your time?

And try to remember this people.

I'm glad somebody else took care of this so I didn't have to be the asshole. It surprises me that I hear pretty smart people using alumni as a singular word.

I deserved that one guys...

I'm the one that makes fun of people that say scenarios instead of scenarii...

I'll be sure to write a post on "are you an assh*** who corrects people and makes pretty bad mistakes himself?"

I'm the shittiest alum ever, and damn proud of it. The shit my school pulled in raping my family for every dime they had (while giving free rides to kids whose parents reported incomes 5k lower than ours) was almost as impressive as the education I got there that taught me how to turn around and rape everyone else for all they're worth the same way. Oh wait, I learned that on my own... so I guess school really taught me nothing?

If I get one more e-mail asking for a donation I swear to god I'm going to go ape-shit. My 10 year reunion for high school is coming up and I have no intention of going, I blew off the 5 year for college, and anyone from school that's not in my life already, I have no intention of seeing anyway. The most active I've ever been as an alum is going to our NY alumni club and getting so wasted on free booze that I kept shouting out that this place was almost as good as the Harvard club.

I am active with both UG and Grad schools, although I tend to prefer my grad school over UG. I don't contribute money because the amount I could contribute isn't enough for me to actually direct the funds, but I commit time and effort which is enough at this point. It is a great way to help others, network and promote the school you went to.

To each their own though. Not everyone cares.

It will literally never even cross my mind to give back to my UG. If I ever actually make it (key word is if) it will have had ZERO to do with my school. My school's job database currently has 8 finance positions even listed, lmfao. About 500 alumni have even signed up for our alumni database (that's even less than graduate each year). And lastly, the ultimate kick in the dick, is that I could have gotten all this for roughly 1/4 the price elsewhere. In the ultimate twist of irony, is the fact that what I over-payed for was to have my school's reputation worsen (giving full rides to unqualified "poor" kids so our admins can feel like fucking Robin Hood).

P.S.- this was in regards to donations. Would def go to reunions because my class was fun as hell.
P.P.S.- You should probably stop making fun of those people using "scenarios"

It would be nice, and not to mention, advantageous to keep in touch of those people as they spread out in the world. But here's my situation, I am already in touch with the people I admired and adored. As for the institution, I didn't go to my own convocation (yes, thats right). Institutions are overrated.
