Asking to switch roles in FT conversion?

At the moment I have 2 options:

Return FT at a BB in a role im not very interested in (along the lines of Treasury/ payments), or take a SA role Etrading desk at a better/top BB (I much prefer trading and using my quant skills). For this latter choice I would have to shell out money to do a masters degree (which I may not be admitted to) or risk not receiving FT return offer.

I was thinking to ask HR if I could move from my FT Treasury/Payments role to a S&T desk. Has anyone done this before? Is there a chance I might lose my FT offer altogether (since they'll find out im not interested in the position I have a FT offer in). Is this request worth making? What would you guys do in my position and what choice would you make. Thanks

You already have the offer so its unlikely they rescind - if I were you, I'd have a conversation saying your excited/desire this role, but you're curious to know if there are openings in S&T
