Chinese nationals will try to recruit you for this random annual dragonboat race started by some Chinese poet thousands of years ago. I have never done one, but people recruiting for these teams go around claiming that there is absolutely nothing better than getting up at 6AM on a Saturday morning to get in a boat and pull two oars over and over and over again.
A lot of folks will do team fundraisers and run 5Ks, 10Ks, 13.1s.
Most BBs are just too gigantic to have a culture where they have regular sports teams. However my experience was heavily skewed towards quant analytics.
IBD does not have time for sports. Traders are too busy getting sloshed after the close. Research/Quant Analytics mostly stick to running events. Not sure what Ops and Accounting do. They may be the cool kids with basketball teams etc.
Sorry, that comment reads horribly. I edited it a sentence at a time and the result is that it comes off more biting than I really wanted it to. Worse, it seems dismissive of Chinese culture- that's not how I feel or what I was trying to get at. (I am simply dismissive of anything associated with getting up at fricking 6AM on a Saturday morning- ancient Chinese poets or fire alarms.)
The good news about aging is that as you get older, the prospect of going to bed at 10PM on a Friday night to get up at 6AM on a Saturday and go row a boat sounds a little less godawful.
Sports teams are popular at my bank. I'm on a bball team with a bunch of guys on our floor. It's a good way to get some exercise in and get to know ppl on different desks

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing.

the hedge fund i work it has no teams right now but the younger guys in the front office are all obsessed with Crossfit to the point that feel it has become a cult.

Dude. Crossfit is so very cult-ish. I guess that as far as cults go it's probably one that's at least rather productive and benefits people...
Citi in LDN recently put together a choir which competed on a national TV show. If that's your sort of thing.

My former firm had a basketball league
Bears Stearns had an award winning in house lacrosse team. I wonder what happened to them...
Mine does basketball and baseball
For NYC BBs:

If by sports you mean the international excel championship then sure. All banks have teams.
I thought the Chinese dragon boat thing was an East Bound & Down reference...
Lacrosse and basketball seem to be pretty popular.
Not at a bank but my firm runs races and does cross-fit.
