Best time to sell your car?

Hi Guys,

Just really a question for all to gain some insight as I mull over options. I’ve got a 2013 Range Rover Sport, which contrary to popular belief, I have not had many problems with. The car runs perfect today, and sits at just over 70K miles break-even. It is paid off, and I am trying to figure out if I should ‘drive this puppy to the ground’ (I.e. until I’m paying more annually in repairs than I would for a new car) or if I should capitalize on potentially being able to get ~$20K still for it and roll it into a new car.

Any thoughts, tidbits or insights you’ve picked up over the years would be super helpful.

Thanks all!

My guess (and this is just purely a guess) is the reputation for the Range Rover's liability issues way precedes it and therefore even if you've been luckier than the typical owner with its reliability, I think you may be more hard pressed to find a buyer that will give you full "value" for the pristine nature of your car.  I think worth exploring the used market just to see what you can get but I would say you may as well drive it for longer assuming you're still generally enjoying the car and aren't looking for a new one solely other than your economic reason highlighted above.

Thanks, and agree. I am thinking of putting it up on some websites for a high price and see the bites. Just worried that the longer I own, the more likely a large maintenance spend is coming all while depreciation is accumulating

A large maintenance spend could be possible, but if it drives fine now maybe keep it for a few more years as 70K really isn’t a ton of miles.
