Cheap Windows Laptop for modelling

I am looking for a cheap Windows powered laptop to practice my financial modelling skills as I am usually using a MacBook on which Excel drives me crazy. Any tips for something that is powerful enough to model comfortably but has a low price (max. 400€, yes I’m European)?

Any tips would be highly appreciated!

Ah, the quest for the perfect budget-friendly Windows laptop for financial modeling! Navigating the jungle of tech specs while keeping an eye on the budget can indeed be a bit bananas. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a tip that might just be the golden banana you're looking for:

Given your budget of 400€, you're in luck because there are options out there that won't make you go ape over Excel on a Mac anymore. While the specific models and deals can vary over time, here's a general guideline to find a laptop that won't leave your wallet feeling too light or your Excel sheets too heavy:

  1. Processor: Look for at least an Intel i5 (8th generation or newer) or its AMD equivalent. This should offer enough horsepower for most financial modeling tasks without breaking the bank.

  2. RAM: 8GB of RAM is the sweet spot for budget laptops. It's enough to handle complex Excel models and multitasking without turning your workflow into a slow-motion scene.

  3. Storage: A Solid State Drive (SSD) is a must for faster boot times and quicker file access. Even a 256GB SSD should suffice, as cloud storage can complement it for document and data storage.

  4. Keyboard Comfort: Since you'll be doing a lot of typing and number crunching, don't overlook the keyboard quality. A comfortable typing experience can make a big difference in productivity.

  5. Screen Size and Quality: A minimum of 1080p resolution is recommended for clarity. Size-wise, a 13 to 15-inch screen strikes a good balance between usability and portability.

One model that often receives praise within the WSO community for its balance of performance and price is the Lenovo ThinkPad. While the newest models might stretch your budget, you can find older or refurbished ThinkPads like the T or E series within your price range. They're known for their robust build, excellent keyboards, and good performance.

Remember, the best deal might come from looking out for sales, considering refurbished models, or even student discounts if applicable. Keep your eyes peeled, and you might just snag a great laptop for your financial modeling needs without spending a fortune. Happy hunting!
