Classic car restoration
Finally restoring one of my dream cars (1968 Porsche 912) in the next couple months and originally I thought I wanted one color (Irish green) but now I'm caught between a few of them.
Obviously depending on the car you get sometimes you want a color that shows off its lines/curves or some other feature of the car.
Besides black, gray and silver, what's your favorite car color?
Thanks !
British Racing green, truly a feat of art
Beautiful color, prefer the Irish green tho
It’s one of the all time great colors.
I have an M2 - Long Beach Blue is the most beautiful color I've laid eyes on since I can remember. It's loud, but subtle at the same time. It fits the angles of the car perfectly and doesn't hurt that the M2 is the best-looking BMW since the 1M and E46 series. There has not been a SINGLE time since I got mine that I haven't looked back as I locked it three, maybe four times.
Pure eye candy, with the byproduct of 405HP. This thing is gonna get me into trouble!
Here's some proof that the color is beautiful.
Long Beach Blue might be one of the most popular color for the M2, The wheel arches are like the modern equivalent of the e30 m3 arches. It’s a monster!
The body shape is so well-done it is just lovely to look at. Shame they had to go ruin it with the new G87+, which in contrast looks like a low-poly rendering of an Elantra.
Best of luck to you on your restoration - you better post some progress pics as it comes along! Love following stuff like this.
I dig it. I like that midnight violet color that was popular with one of the M3s. At night it would look black and during the day it would have that cool hue.
I’m a black car lover (and hater). I’m on my second black car and do a good job of keeping it clean. It just sucks that every single ding shows up. I used to live by a self serve car wash and could use the Rainx wax as often as needed for $2 or something. It always looked sharp. I then moved by a car wash that had a monthly unlimited rate of $22 or something. Again, always clean and sharp. Now the closest car wash is $12 a wash which gets a little expensive in the winter months.
Thank you so much for your input !
This color!
.
What color is the car on the inside? I would go with slate grey or black.
Truffle brown!
If you're not married to the original color of the car, maybe consider bahama yellow if it's going over truffle brown - it is appropriate to that era and it matches the interior really nicely. Also, I totally get it with the provenance/history of Irish green but honestly there are a crap load (and by that I mean five or six) of Irish green long hoods running around, at least here in southern California. So you wouldn't necessarily stand out with that color choice.
What are the other Porsche colors you're considering? Edit - I should also ask what is the original color code on the car?
nardo grey
It's different and stands out without being loud and obnoxious.
For Ford GT and Shelby Cobra:
- both blue with double racing stripe in white down center
Countach:
- White
F40, F50:
- Red (obviously)
Maybach:
- Black
Rolls Royce Cullinan:
- Midnight Metallic Blue
Lotus Exige:
- Orange and Black
Mercedes S:
- Black
Midnight Metallic Blue is just classy.
Panther Pink
I was perfectly convinced that I would have a Panther pink car when I grew up.
Panther Pink AAR Cuda is on the dream car list.
British Racing Green
Styker Red
Black — all black, can’t ever go wrong here
Non-metallic grey
Drove a Stryker Red Daytona a few times and the color looks even more amazing in the sun.
Whatever color the original designer(s) made their first renders in for a particular model is usually my preference. If you're not interested in a factory restoration consider karminrot (magenta) or daphnegrün (apple green) from the 1970s original Porsche catalog. They aren't for everyone but that's the appeal.
Actually, I’m restoring with a friend! Apple green is a good choice but Apple green metallic would crush it. I’m more into Irish green tho.
Platinum blue metallic. Older mercedes color but I've got it on my w211 e350 and it's incredible.
Yes ! Beautiful color, metallics are easier to repair. Plus it's lighter, so dirt won't show up as much.
I have always admired the less common but bold colors. I probably would not buy one but I like the look of a yellow GT convertible Mustang. I would love car as a rental.
CTR Yellowbird is one of my dream cars ever. Yellow is a great choice.
Irish Green is an excellent choice
It’s my top choice. Green is such an underused color by car manufacturers.
Rosso corsa
Striking color.
Blue. On a bimmer
Slept on.
yas marina blue? if so i agree, criminally underrated color.
One of the most unique colors in my opinion
Being a Porsche guy, paint it a PTS color. I’ve been a fan of Macadamia Metallic for a long time, however if you want something in the green range Oak green metallic, Brewster, jet green metallic, and Auratium green are all great historic colors.
All great colors. Irish green is my first choice but Metallic Dark Brown comes second. Vinaccia would look great as well
Python green?
.
Dark green is kinda classy
Green is around but it’s such a specific color that people would have to like, they probably just don't make many cars like it.
TdF / Le Mans blue, moonlight blue metallic, Seville red metallic. On the brighter side Mexico blue, or Voodoo blue.
Seville red metallic tho…
You said outside of BGS, but Diamond Schwarz, Salmon Silver or Daytona Violet. Maybe Estoril Blue.
Daytona Violet, unique color. Adding that option to my list. Thing is, i have to come up with a decision by the end of the week so it’s getting complicated haha
British Racing Green, Leguna Seca Blue, Championship White.
One of my favorite BMW blacks is Carbon Black
The best choice.
rubellite red metallic
.
beaut.
Good question - for cars like a turbo s or pista metallic blue. For x5m competitions or 23 range rovers probably just white. Love cars but pretty basic when it comes to the color I would want for them.
Tbh I’m also pretty basic when it comes to car colors but since the 1968 is such a unique car i thought it would be a great idea to restore it and make something authentic.
Black > Gray and Silver.
