Considering tattoo (female)

I am considering getting a tattoo on my arm, not so low as my wrist, but upper forearm - in the hopes of impressing upon my superiors my commitment and acumen for and in the industry.

I am thinking of a small E(Rj) = Rf+RPj

Was wondering what you guys thought about this? I would need to roll up my sleeves for it to be visible so it wouldn’t be to casual

Well, that's quite a unique way to show your passion for finance! The formula E(Rj) = Rf+RPj is indeed a fundamental one in finance, representing the expected return on a security or portfolio.

However, it's important to remember that the finance industry, especially high finance like investment banking, tends to be quite conservative. While attitudes are changing, visible tattoos might still be frowned upon in some circles.

That being said, if you're passionate about it and it's something you truly want, then go for it! Just remember, it's your knowledge, skills, and work ethic that will truly impress your superiors, not a tattoo.

And hey, if anyone asks about it, you've got a great conversation starter about risk premiums and expected returns!

Yes I have found it's most important to portray myself as expert. Hence the tattoo. I do other things, like memorize the definition of equity waterfall so I can recite it very well. I never offer it up unless asked to do so, so it seems natural and like I understand it.

Practicing memorizing things is most important I think.

I also have several functions (formulas?) in excel memorized such as x-look up. Meaning I can explain what it does in excel with a few examples of when you can use it. I can even explain why it is usually better than the other "look up" type functions. That being said, I obviously couldn't actually apply it or use it in excel, I simply memorized these explanations from a YouTube excel tutorial channel.

However, the other day I came into some cause for concern.

A property manager muttered (under his breath) something about me always saying the definition the same way, "verbatim and at the same speed", when I recited what an equity waterfall was in conversation.

This is an unfortunate side effect of memorizing something you do not understand. You can only place emphasis where you heard the person that you are copying place the emphasis or it could sound "off".

I am not that worried though.

I would be seriously alarmed if it was a "real" and/or respected position at my firm. Even something as lowly as the receptionist who just answers calls might be able to cause me some embarrassment.

But since it's a 30-something year old property manager I can't imagine anyone paying attention enough to what they say so that it would ever matter.

So, I may have luckily dodged a bullet here, due to the fact that (and this is not at all in a "personal way") in my firm PMs are universally regarded as "worthless cuckold clean up losers".

I am not sure what that means or why they are regarded this way, this is just how everyone else treats them.

I am still going to be vigilant from now on though and make sure I recite some of the other terms that I have memorized, and really make sure I restrict myself when it comes to the term of equity waterfall.

(The tattoo idea was not in response to feeling anxiety regarding the property manager as I have explained they do not matter, it was just a really good idea I came up with when studying my lines for terms.)

You're gonna want to get a tramp stamp for the location of this tattoo. Above the bikini line so you can flaunt it to all your friends. Don't let the Monkey Bot sway you. You got this.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

Seconded, tramp stamp would absolutely establish dominance.

"The obedient always think of themselves as virtuous rather than cowardly" - Robert A. Wilson | "If you don't have any enemies in life you have never stood up for anything" - Winston Churchill | "It's a testament to the sheer belligerence of the profession that people would rather argue about the 'risk-adjusted returns' of using inferior tooth cleaning methods." - kellycriterion
