Country fed up with lockdown

Does anyone think we reach a point at the end of 2020 or early 2021 where the country shifts to a "fuck it" attitude towards Covid and everything goes back to normal? This isn't a post making the whole "young people cant be hurt by this so we should just go back to normal" argument. More just an observation a noteworthy amount of people are already starting to become fairly bold when it comes to disregarding the rules put in place to stop the spread. A vaccine by the end of 2020 would be great (not to mention unprecedented) but even if that happens, we're realistically still looking at at least half of 2021 with these same guidelines in place for things to begin going back to normal. I just don't know if I see a majority of the country continuing to live like this.

The riots started like two months ago. We are here.

The lockdowns and the economic destruction it has brought, particularly to the working class, is definitely, in my view, the catalyst for the rioting and looting and protesting hell we are locked in. Mental depression and economic ruin are widespread. Every single day I'm in awe of the foolishness of these lockdowns--how we have been willing to sacrifice the economic livelihood and mental well being of the entire nation in order to save 80+-year-olds in nursing homes. But in most places the lockdowns have been eased; the issue is that the media is driving panic porn, and people are reacting in kind. People are choosing to not engage with civil society. The only way that ends is if the media stops pushing panic.

fuck boomers - they've had it so good all their life at the expense of every other generation

Probably, but not on paper. Officially, the rules will stay in place for the majority of 2021 like OP mentioned. It'll just vary by geography for how heavily they're enforced. Unfortunately for us, the cities we live will likely be on the shortlist of cities that keep the guidelines in place through the end whether or not it's logical (gotta keep up the optics - imagine the field day CNN or Fox News would have if NYC/SF/Chicago became less strict). Get comfortable sitting in small groups at tables when you go to bars - it's going to be like this for a while.

I firmly believe we will reach a point where people realize the mental, economic, and societal cost of a lockdown is a heavier burden than the (low) risk of the virus itself. This will be amplified soon as school starts for most families. Many parents have mentally braced for just a summer of having their children at home, "just a few months of this". Now with schools opting for at-home learning, I think many families will reach a breaking point. Just look at most school reopen surveys, parents want their children back in school. The media is painting one picture, the American people are seeing and feeling another. It's hysteria, panic porn, "if it bleeds it leads" at its finest. Fuck, I saw WSJ post an interesting read earlier this week about the "draconian" measures of the lockdowns. That is the first major news publication i have seen throughout this entire pandemic admit "maybe we dropped the ball here".
