Enlighten me.

I've been learning the basic stuff about IB for a couple years now. I'm going to be entering my first year at a big name west coast target school. Leaning towards Econ major however I do not have to declare for a couple years. Please give me your best advice and what I can start doing now to set myself up well. I have read all the pinned forum posts and am just looking for any tidbits of information that could help me along (i.e. books to read, people to research, podcasts, videos, ways to connect with people etc). Thanks.

A good book on life as an IB analyst is Discussion Materials, perhaps read this first to see if IB is for you.

For general finance reads, my favorites are:

Black Edge (about Steve Cohen and SAC Capital / Point 72)

More Money than God (each chapter tells the story of a different famous hedge fund manager – this book will touch on a lot of different areas so recommend it heavily for someone who wants to learn)

Liar’s Poker (classic)

I would connect with some upperclassmen who did IB once you get to school in the fall.

Also reach out to anyone from your HS doing IB.

Most importantly, make sure you get involved with all the relevant clubs on campus and find your way into an internship for freshman summer.

Take an intro accounting class your first semester so you can understand the basics of financial statements.
