Evan McMullin, Wharton and GS Alum, Launches Anti-Trump Presidential Bid

Evan McMullin today launched an Anti-Trump conservative Republican bid. His resume is stacked, between Chief Policy Director, Banker at GS, and the CIA, but he's definitely a relative unknown.

Chief Policy Director U.S. House of Representatives | Republican Conference January 2015 – Present (1 year 8 months)Washington D.C. Metro Area Manage the development and advancement of House Republican Conference domestic and foreign policy initiatives, while leading Conference policy team. Specific areas of focus have been foreign affairs, national security, technology, health care, finance, government reform, natural resources, and women's empowerment.

Senior Advisor U.S. House of Representatives | Committee on Foreign Affairs 2013 – 2015 (2 years)Washington D.C. Metro Area Advised the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and other House members on issues related to the Near East, South Asia, counterterrorism, and other national security issues.

Investment Banking Associate Goldman Sachs 2010 – 2013 (3 years)San Francisco Bay Area Worked on a variety of capital raising and M&A projects and deals across several industries including technology, energy, consumer goods, biotech, industrials, and real estate.

Operations Officer Central Intelligence Agency | National Clandestine Service 1999 – 2010 (11 years)Various International Locations Managed clandestine operations related to counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, energy, political stability, and counterintelligence, while serving mostly in hostile environments.

Volunteer Refugee Resettlement Officer United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees 2001 – 2001 (less than a year)Amman, Jordan Vetted and processed UN-recognized refugees from the Middle East and Africa for resettlement to third countries.

Deckhand The Cavalier (a commercial fishing vessel) 1997 – 1997 (less than a year)Washington State & Alaska I mostly just did my best not to fall in as we sailed the Alaskan seas.

I need to dig into his issues a bit more, but he's supposed to be a far more traditional conservative. He's going to be targeting only 20-30 states as well, so it is 0% a campaign to get elected and 100% a campaign to stop Trump.

I wonder too how much this will conflict with Gary Johnson and the Libertarian Party's attempt to get above the 15% debate threshold.

I don't think it's necessary to be honest - don't polls already have Clinton winning by a large margin?

Could be a name recognition thing. Give a couple of anti-Trump speeches and interviews, win a couple percentage points in November (or win Utah? He's Mormon and Utah is very Anti-Trump), and then translate that into a successful Congressional or Senate run or getting his name in the primaries in 2020.

I'm reading that it also could be a start before he runs a campaign to become the new director of the RNC.
