Finance jobs not in IB/PE/HF/VC that pay $300k+ per year near 30 years old?
Title, just graduated college recently in a software sales role making $70k, software sales has a good career path but feel like I’m not using my major/finance at all… would love to hear some jobs I can move to if need be. Thanks!
Look into the Asset Management industry. Plenty of people make good cash
Few questions about your position.
What's the income trajectory in software sales and how much commission do you get as you progress? What does your day to day look like?
I’d say I’ll make $100k next year, 2-3 years probably $120k-140k 3-4 years in $175-200k
5+ years in industry you should be pulling in 200k+ all in. Right now I’m an SDR so I just call people and book demos. Definitely a nice path $ wise but I’d like to eventually get into a director/leadership role making $300k+ which seems possible around age 30 give or take
Distribution for asset managers could be a good fit for you. Basically, when Blackrock, Vanguard, etc. create a new ETF or other product, someone has to actually get it out into the market, which means meeting with fund managers, wealth managers, etc. to pitch it - effectively B2B sales for financial products (not selling to retail investors - very different business). Super scalable commissions. The specific positions tend to be called wholesalers or similar
What kind of comp can you get?
It’s sales. As an external wholesaler on full commission, good salespeople can be anywhere from $300k-$1M+, akin to software and medical sales. If you aren’t selling, however…
Possible in Corp Dev / Corp Fin if you're including bonuses and stock comp. Have to be pretty good and a bit lucky, but possible.
The two about tech sales strategy or financial products sales seem like good choices… being candid the likelihood of someone getting into corporate development or investing-side asset management with a software sales background, no banking / consulting experience, and a finance degree is not great… but there are definitely roles that can pay well without going that route
I don't understand why you wouldn't want to be in IB/PE/HF/VC............. why are you avoiding these areas? The hours aren't bad across the board, only at some places.
It’s not that I’m avoiding them it’s that I feel as if besides getting an MBA, I have no way to get in as I only found out about them my junior year of college. Would definitely love to work within banking
I relate to this

Private Banking also pays 150K base at Associate level. It’s also a Sales oriented role
How much is bonus and how does the comp scale?
The average was 60-100% from what I heard.
Trust fund advisor, PWM, FP&A, marketing, product management, RE sale
And last but not the least, freelance trader
Sounds like you’re on a good trajectory in software sales. Why not keep at it?
They have unrealistic expectations about salary and salary progression
They’ve graduated into a medium paying job and are asking about if any secret super high paying jobs are out there (excludes all the common high paying jobs on this forum)
