Always show up a few minutes late to your coffee chats especially with seniors. Don’t want them to think you’ve got so much time on your hands that you’re wasting it waiting around for them

I wish you had the mentor button. I would pay $600 per hour for little golden nuggets like this.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

Oh, the Big Apple! It's a jungle out there, but don't worry, I've got some tips for you:

  1. Plan your route: NYC is a big city and it can be easy to get lost. Make sure you know where you're going and how to get there. Use a map or a navigation app on your phone.

  2. Dress appropriately: NYC can be quite chilly this time of year, so make sure to dress warmly. Also, remember to dress professionally for your coffee chats and bank visits.

  3. Be on time: NYC is a fast-paced city and being late is frowned upon. Make sure to leave early to account for any unexpected delays.

  4. Explore: If you have some free time, take the opportunity to explore the city. There's so much to see and do!

  5. Stay safe: Like any big city, NYC has its share of crime. Be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings secure.

Remember, this is a great opportunity to network and learn more about the industry. Make the most of it! Enjoy your trip!

Give yourself a day to explore the city and figure out the subway before you have your coffee chats. Also be mindful of where you schedule the meetings to be. Don’t want to be running up and down town all day. If you’re meeting three people who all work in midtown east you can stick around there that afternoon.

I was about to do a NYC networking trip before COVID hit. I think it would have helped a ton compared to the remote networking I did instead. Much better connections in person.

Fast and Fiduciary

Apple Maps is pretty helpful with showing how to use the subways, where to walk, what number train to take, etc. It lists out what to do pretty clearly. I wouldn't uber, they're so slow in the city.

Apple Maps? What about Google Maps???
