From Forbes "Disinfect Your Computer Or Risk Losing Internet Access"

Another quickie:

The FBI is warning that hundreds of thousands of individuals could lose access to the internet come July 9 unless they disinfect and remove a malware Trojan off their computers.
The Trojan in question is called DNS Changer, a piece of malware that was discovered back in 2007 and is estimated to have infected millions of computer worldwide.
Back in January of this year the DCWG estimated that some 450,000 systems were still infected with DNS Changer.

That would be Stuxnet, and it's essentially confirmed it was a joint US/Israeli effort.

The most badass part of Stuxnet is that is didn't just shut down their nuclear facility. It fucking sabotaged it by slowing the uranium enrichment than speeding up too quick which damaged the equipment. It did so over a couple months time and did massive damage before they even knew it existed.

Stuxnet also took advantage of what are called "zero day" bugs, or bugs that have never been exploited before. The complexity of the bug almost guarantees it was created by a government agency.

It wasn't so much the complexity, it was the so-called "back door" that essentially switched the virus off after a certain timeframe. Purely malicious black hats aren't going to put the energy into building in a failsafe that limits collateral. That design element alone points squarely toward a first-world superpower with a conscience.
