Getting left out at work due to age and inexperience.

I'm a corporate development and strategy analyst at a mid sized midstream company. I did 2 years at a MM IB first. As for as general job satisfaction goes, I feel quite lucky to be at where I'm at. Hours are good, pay is better than my IB, I am getting fairly good experience, I work with nice people, etc. Worth noting that I am mid 20s, whereas most of my coworkers are 35 - 55. Also, most do not have a similar background in finance. They worked up from various roles in the company or industry.

However, my biggest downside is that I often feel a bit left out at work, and dismissed due to age/inexperience. Here are some examples * I had to do report XYZ. I feel like I did a really good job. The manager disagreed with some things, and just changed it on their end before handing off. There is literal math errors in the work they did (IE, double counting costs, etc). * I won't be included in a lot of meetings that I know I could contribute to. There are some director level people in there who are completely clueless regarding the subject matter, etc. * Seeing incompetent people above. There's a very senior BD person that is a bit of a laughing stock in the industry, and hasn't done any tangible work in 3 years here. * A lot of the more fun parts of the job. Whether it be lunch meetings, golf events, etc.

A lot of this stuff frustrates me. I guess there are legitimate rationalizations. The company doesn't want to send a 25 year old to represent them with creditors...there is credibility problems there. And from a psychological standpoint, I don't think a 45 year old manager wants to feel like they're getting advice from someone green.

At the same time, I am worried about the longer term path here. I just feel like the people in the senior level roles are fairly cemented there, and it will take years to get into a higher established role. An old coworker here (younger person) left for a PE job for fairly similar reasons.

From my standpoint, I'm trying to care less. Realizing that it's mainly an ego thing. I'm still getting my paycheques, doing fairly valuable work, etc.

Can anyone relate?
