Homelessness Is Now a Crime in Columbia, SC
I'm all in favor of laws against littering and urinating in public. Without them the whole country would look like GA. However, laws against loitering in a PUBLIC places are absurd. The people of SC would be much better off trying to fix their economy.

They should make it a crime in NYC. Maybe then they would all go elsewhere (not NYC).
Detroit.
I thought of another Bostonian joke, but out of courtesy and concern for the homeless I will not mention it here.
South Park makin' moves!
Funny how you say SC needs to improve its economy.
Why is that funny? Just Google searching I found that they are ranked 48th in the nation in terms of 2012 per capita personal income.

if you really think about it, homelessness should be a crime. you are not a productive member of society, you do not pay taxes, you can still vote, they abuse healthcare, large portion are addicts, spread disease, and numerous other things that would be attributed to a criminal.
That sounds like something Bateman would say. I hope your trolling.
Bateman on Homelessness:
So you'd put homeless people in prison and spend even more money then?
You realize that people don't have to conform to what your idea of proper living is. But there's no other planet where they can go. They have to share land with someone.
And I thought that homelessness WAS a crime; just one that's unenforceable, really.
calm the fuck down, it was sarcasm. anyone can rationalize anything being criminal...just depends who's interests are at play...

I spent 1 month in Logan Circle in Philadelphia. The homeless made it utterly miserable. They are filthy, greedy (yes, greedy) alcoholics. They're lucky that our society has the grace to not euthanize them. The only thing lower than a homeless person is a rich, miserly, white, secular liberal whose religious core is fulfilled by calling on other people to redistribute their earnings to people who didn't earn it. But I digress...
Where is your distain for them?
Huh? What are you talking about? The only people that help the homeless are a few churches that give them food, clothes and shelter. I'm unaware of any large scale effort of "rehabilitating" the homeless. Most homeless people have mental disabilities/insanity and can't be rehabbed. Most of the ones who are lucid enough to hold real conversations make chronically bad life decisions. I spent a year in Washington, D.C. working with a homelessness organization. Despite the vast efforts of the organization, there was virtually no tangible rehabilitation of the homeless that I ever witnessed.
I tried really hard for about 3 months with a guy who ultimately violated his parole and was thrown back in jail. Prior to that I gave him $500 to buy some decent clothes, to get his photo ID from the District, and to start cleaning up his life like he said he wanted to. The guy took the money and went to a movie theatre and brought a few dozen homeless friends--he spent the entire amount of money I gave him on going to movies.
So my disdain for the homeless in America has to do with their chronic bad decisions and toxic mix of greed and laziness. This isn't the Middle East circa 50 AD--nobody should make such bad decisions that they spend their life on the streets in the United States. The only excuse is mental or severe physical disability.
