Hotel Hunting Tips -- for Chicago but for anywhere really
Gonna be spending a few days in Chicago at the end of September and trying to scheme a way to get a good deal on a hotel.. SO... first off, any good suggestions? just really want a decent place to put my head and sleep, gonna be exploring the city and flashmob robbing walgreens with some under privelaged youth maybe once or twice a day... and ideally finding some good hole in the wall food places, so preferably somewhere that has decently good food places as well..
Has anyone ever used priceline, hotwire or any other 'make your own price' site to great effect? is it better to book hotels farther out or closer to the scheduled time both normally and through these sites?
Any general suggestions on hotels? Since im a poor trader im trying to spend under 150 a night, cheaper the better ;D preferably 120 130 but if can be done cheaperi ll take it lol
I lived in Chicago for a week for around $30 a night. Of course, I was a poor student so $150 a night was kinda out of range for me. Look up Hostel International or Chicago Gateway Hostel (gateway is pretty close to downtown Chicago). By the way, these were dorm style rooms with bunked beds and a locker. If you're looking something a little better, I think they have double rooms for $100 a night (not sure on this one though).
Okay maybe I should say I'm cheap not poor lol and no hostels or motels
Ha ha ha ha. Sorry, these worn't work for you then.
I always use hotwire for major cities.

They don't tell you the hotel name, but you can use this list to compare. Its more work but its always cheaper than the same hotel at expedia, and often alot less.

Use Priceline and get a room at Hotel Felix. It's a recently renovated "boutique" hotel in the Gold Coast/River North area (just north of downtown). I stayed there back in Feb. for $75/night (Priceline). Feel free to PM about the hotel or Chicago, in general.
does it matter if you ask for the room ahead of time or is it better to book closer? from what ive read seems negligible...
Not sure if it matters much. For what it's worth, I booked it ~ 1 month ahead of time.
Stay at the Best Western River North by the Rock N Roll McDonalds, it is gorgeous...and cheap as hell

lol 300 bucks a night not that cheap ;p
I edited to say best western not westin... my bad.
But it was a poorly crafted joke, the best western looks like a homeless shelter and pisses me off every time i walk back from the bars to my apt.
LMAO i was like uh... 300 a night? lol
Make sure to know DCF for your check-in interview
Www.hoteltonight.com Get 25 credit for signing up and they give three hotel deals a night.
I always use priceline name your bid, usually gets 20-30% off from what regular priceline prices. Can't go wrong by only looking at 4 star or above in the loop.
