For work or travel?

I've traveled to all of the eastern european countries and they each have their own gorgeous cities. Budapest and Prague were incredible places and had epic clubs/raves. These were by far, my favorite in the region.

Yeah, they don't have class like our fat bitchy sluts in America and Britain.

Seriously, Eastern Europe is awesome. Once i get my firm up and running, I'm heading to EE again for the spring/summer.

I am biased because I come from CEE but here is my ranking of ladies:

  1. Ukrainian/Russian/Polish
  2. Czech/Slovak/Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian/Slovenian/Estonian/Latvian/Lithuanian
  3. Hungarian/Bulgarian/Romanian

I am biased due to my experience, but if I would say that ladies in Central Eastern Europe are the hottest, cutest and have most class on average.

I was just in Budapest. Beautiful place and crazy nightlife(be careful though, some girls who are underage may look 20+). I was in Kiev, Prague and Sofia this year as well. If you have the cash and want to have a good time, go to either Prague or Budapest, Kiev only if you really really have the cash and don't mind that the city is relatively underdeveloped but can offer a VERY luxurious lifestyle. It's too cold right now but check out Odessa in Ukraine as well- Ibiza of Eastern Europe(even better than Ibiza IMO). Really depends on why you are going I guess. Never been Slovakia and Slovenia.

I'm currently living in Ukraine. :) I'm an expat but I can say I'm quite aware of local language and stuffs.

You can check a bit more about me through my post on the Newbie forum. wallstreetoasis Dot com/forums/introducing-myself-ami5

If you're nearby or plan to come, send me a PM.

Good luck finding equivalent positions there...also, good luck starting your own business there with all the local specifics (bribes, corruption etc. are all normal). My dad works in real estate and recently did a deal with a family that had a successful restaurant business in the US but wanted to go back home and develop the same business in Europe. Guess what happened - they realized things don't work the same way as they do in the US, so they got out of it ASAP. That's just one example how there are differences that you don't think about at first.

As far as women go, yes there is lots of talent, but I'm not a big fan of girls who are so caked up that their face looks like a canvas. Someone above mentioned how some that look 20-something are actually in their mid-teens. In particular, Bulgarian women lack good manners and class in general, of course there are exceptions, but that's how it is for most.

I can't speak for countries like Bulgaria or Poland, but regarding Ukraine/Russia, I think I can provide you my two cents.

Girls: Girls in these countries are good-looking and cultured. But don't be a cocky and rich American and expect girls to be floored because they love your dollars or want to come to the US of A. Well, likes attract likes - and if you want to come to this region for more than a vacation, then you better prepare to dwell into language and culture. Otherwise you'll get around only pros and semi-pros.

Money/Lifestyle: I respectfully disagree with opinions regarding being paid less. Well, yes, technically you do get paid less. But then the cost of living is less as well. An important point to raise here is that don't expect these places to be some sort of 'shithole'. Russia/Ukraine etc have a lot of "Nouveau rich" people. Moscow is the city with the largest number of billionaires. They didn't become rich by working in finance/Investment banking/consulting, but rather some other means. Those means might not be illegal in all cases; there are genuine businessmen around, unlike how media portrays.

Biggest con: No such 'network' like it exists in NY for finance or SF when it comes to start-ups. This could be a big issue for you. I have seen loads of young expats who move here in hopes of some 'action', only to find themselves limited to pros and expats when it comes to networking/dating etc. because they can't mumble more than few phrases and can't name more than 2-3 cities in the country they're in.

A western degree and work ex is much valued here, but of course if you know the language, it makes everything smooth. I suggest, to take a vacation for a while, and not to roam around with expats/foreigners at all. Be on your own. If you like it, then big firms usually have offices in Prague/Kiev/Moscow etc., and you can transfer for a semester or a year. If you still feel comfortable after that, then it's all great.

Bottomline: You get some really nice looking girls, and you get money. Ok. But if you want to come here and make the most out of it, then prepare yourself to learn the local language, and it'd be much better if you are able to understand mindset/culture here and make some good acquaintances and friends. You'll be much more long shot than an average banker in NY, at least in the long run.

Midas Mulligan Magoo Something in the middle is a vast over estimation. Hot chicks and good food doth not a market make. The rational trend of thought is that where CME's Globex does not operate, the first/second world does not exist.

okay. I call BS. Read a few reports recently and PE is growing rapidly in the Eastern European Countries. GDP growth for Poland, Czech, and Slovakia combined was something like 70% totaled for the last 5 years. IPO markets are firing (especially Poland) and iBBs have begun expanding investment activities into Warsaw and Hungary. Poland was the only country to hold a steady positive GDP figure during the financial mess. The countries are pulling in major interest from firms because things are still so incredibly undervalued. I was at a firm presentation earlier this year and was impressed.

Eastern Europe is growing, but the 'public' part is not: public government, public markets, public debate. They are not the stagnant cesspool of a kleptocratic thuggocracy they once were, but the indsiders are reaping most of the benefits of the growth, much like India but without the freedom. They are also overfocused on highly concentrated sectors such as oil and defence, and have yet to take an interest in protecting small business: and by small, I mean anything less than billion dollar enterprises.

Also, with all due respect, their mob(s) also makes the Italian subervsion of Chicago circa 1930 look like a charitable foundation. We're talking local wise guys compared to special forces operators who fought in Afghanistan in the 80's, Chechen warlords, and black market nuclear scientists up for hire. The 'free' elections leave a lot to be desired as well.

Something in the middle is about accurate.
