I'm so Sick of This Shit
Alright, you snowflakes are officially out of hand this time: http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/27/news/companies/he…
Seriously... so soft. You know if it was a "dark beer" that slid past a bunch of white people, "racist" wouldn't even cross my mind. Some of you are just looking for shit to cry about.
And then of course Heineken gives into the social pressure. It was clearly referencing the beer lmfao
Which is it? Do you want "DIVERSITY" by having black people / "people of color" in ads, or..................
God damn you fcking SJWs
Why would you possibly allow for something so minuscule to upset you?
I suspect he is so upset because the entire social fabric of our society is being ripped to shreds. I didn't bother to open the hyperlink, but the contents of the comments are easy to read between the lines.
Perhaps it is the dismal tide of globalism, meshed with the SJWs (social justice warriors) who are looking under every rock and in every nook and cranny for something by which they may be offended. I'm a little older than I suspect the average user on this site, so I've lived through the end of the Vietnam war, gas shortages b/c OPEC had the US by the short-hairs in the 70s, the revolution that was Ronald Reagan, the first savior, Clinton, who began the globalist cause in earnest, dot-com bubble burst, etc. etc. etc.
Never in my life have I seen our country so polarized. We have one state that refuses to enforce immigration policy and warns illegals that ICE is coming. We have teenagers who haven't even conquered acne or algebra become cause celebs b/c they happened to be in a school when a lunatic, who should be locked in an insane asylum, chose to bring firearms to school and shoot as many people as possible; just like he'd told countless shrinks he fantasized about doing. We have an ex-porn star and an openly gay man discussing morality on a "news" network. We have ex- SCOTUS justices talking about repealing the 2nd amendment.
The list is nearly endless. Gone are the days of any sense of community or nationalism. I'm ranting now, but I more than empathize and identify w/the OP, whether it was just meant to start a conversation or whether they truly believe as I. Very sad to see what this country has become in a short 50 years. Even sadder is seeing where it is headed in the future.
A few points:
It's hardly original to have a 50-year something claim that the whole country is going down the drain. I'am sure people at the same age claimed the same thing when non-whites were allowed in all-white schools or when women were allowed to vote.
Why is an openly gay man not in a position to discuss morality ?
School-shootings are tragic, but what does that have to do with a beer ad?
Wait you don't see any link between this and the whole poly-amorous relationship post? I think that might have something to do with it
In the past 50 years crime rates are down, high school birth rates are down, high school graduation rates are up, college enrollment rates are up, and we've meandered our way to some semblance of racial equality. But yea, the fabric of the country is ripping apart because the president that you support fucked some porn star (which gave her a platform that she's opportunistic enough to take advantage of), gay people get to openly be gay, high school kids actually care enough to protest, and people are whining about a beer ad that may or may not be racist.
Took the words out of my mouth. Can’t stand these SJWs
Ironic given we have one of the most seemingly nationalistic presidents in US history. Of course current rules dictate that being from an immigrant background is un-American, unless your ancestors were on the Mayflower
So true. The left are ripping down the family unit and it has serious impacts on society. WSO is helpful for learning the world of finance, but it also has liked minded people on politics, most of us can see the shit storm coming.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5556533/ABC-team-controversial-…
The ABC, government funded broadcaster in Aus put shit in their kids shows about white privilege. Then when people responded the show said those people alt right. This is a show for 3 year olds. Society is fucked
Well think slavery and segregation laws- and you are so upset at the Ad getting criticized. Nice
Why can't an openly gay man discuss morality?
You act like I’m raging over it. I’m just sick of this shit in general
my dude...while i agree with you this is a stretch, what's with calling people betas?
Just feel like the SJWs tend to bee super beta. Not trying to offended anyone
Edit: fixed it because the more appropriate comment indeed is SJWs
Oh the humanity! I'm so glad this never happens with conservatives. Oh wait:
https://www.today.com/food/sweet-jesus-ice-cream-faves-backlash-over-of…
haha there's always gotta be THAT GUY bringing libs/cons or repubs/dems into every argument. Defensive much bro? OP called out snowflakes, not whoever you're identifying as right now. You also provided an example of snowflakes. You and OP seem to be in agreement here.
but he is told he has to make everything about libs/cons by the people that think for him, so you shouldn't really blame him
What I don't get is how an ad like this made it out of the door in the first place. Pretty easy to predict that anything even remotely race-related will cause a shit storm.
Or maybe decent people just don't really go out of their way to assume everything is race related.
Exactly. It’s only the people that want to prove their “case” that they’re discriminated against and oppressed. I have a better word: lazy.
You're missing my point, which is that this ad was obviously going to provoke a ton of backlash, regardless of how reasonable people perceive it. There are more than enough unreasonable people willing to make much ado about nothing, and this has been demonstrated repeatedly.
This is hitting on the "paradox of diversity" that some are warning the #metoo movement about. You risk hurting the people you want to help if employers, for example, on a micro (individual) level, determine that the risk is greater than the reward for hiring women, or, in this specific case, that the risk of employing persons of color in ads is riskier than the reward.
I agree completely, and in an ideal world, Heineken would not be bullied into pulling the ad by a small yet vocal group of people. It's suboptimal when groups are able to dictate the social/political environment on the basis of screaming loudly and conducting witch hunts against any opposing their agenda.
However, given the current dynamic under which anything hinting at race, sexual orientation, etc. basically guarantees a shit storm and subsequent removal of that ad/post/tweet/whatever, Heineken should never have run that ad.
they probably thought the were doing a good job by casting "diverse" "people of color," and didn't see anything wrong with it.
Turns out noticing small shit like this takes a racist.
Reverse racism is real my friend. Good luck to white men in the future. And good bye America as we know it. Although, these comments on this thread have given me some hope (with the exception of a few SJWs)
I saw this ad something like 5 times on YouTube (ads before the video) and thought nothing of the commercial other than it was a crappy commercial. Then I saw the controversy yesterday or Monday and looked at the ad again, and yeah, I could see racism...if racism is what you're looking for. It's super unhealthy for people to be out prowling around for offense--it's unhealthy for society and for the individual who is obsessed. I wonder if there's some sort of mental disorder associated with people who are prowling around looking to be offended, but it's probably just a toxic cocktail of academia and social media.
Very well put
I generally agree, I thought nothing of it. People are extra-sensitive about this stuff these days and social media creates a sort of snowball effect. That doesn't mean this is worthy of a thread or some diatribe about the state of the Union.
BBDreamin, I agree the ad and reaction are dumb.
Realize, this isn't a "race" issue; this is a business issue. All of it. Racism, sexism, metoo, feminism, genderism?, SJWs, the president, it's all about business and someone making money.
What I mean by money is, there are people on the back end pushing agendas. For example, as much as Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton say they want racism to end, they actually don't, because if it did they won't get paid. It's really just a game of creating a problem, have people care about that problem, tell people you can fix the problem, but never solve the problem. There are lots of examples, too many to list.
I think Bill Burr or Joe Rogan said it, but as a country we got a little too progressive once Obama got elected, meaning certain people needed it to be pulled back, because the more racism out there, the more money they make (books, TV, speaking engagements). Trump was actually a great driver for this because they could paint him in the media as they do.
Another thing to realize is, it's all an eye ball game. You could have a "news" network do 100 nights in a row on government and politics and teaching how everything works, bottom to top; won't get anywhere near the viewing if you have one hour of a porn star talking about the president.
There is no money to be made in saying everything is "great" or "okay", fear drives a lot. Same with racism and all of this (I understand race factors into somewhat), people latch onto things. When people ask themselves why they aren't successful, they can't blame themselves, has to be I'm too short, too ugly, too black, too Indian, a women.
See also: Fox News & the entire angry paranoid right-wing media empire, the NRA, big military spend lobbyists, and Republicans who campaign on social issues to get votes but then do nothing on abortion and instead cut social services to benefit rich donors once they're in office.
The latter part of your mini-rant is what we call the game of politics, buddy. Extreme right-wing and extreme left-wing retards are two sides of the same shit-coin.
As a side note: I'm not sure why you decided to throw the NRA in there. In addition, not everyone on Fox News/CNN/[insert your media platform punching bag of choice] is extreme/paranoid/etc.
Don’t just assume that all republicans hail Fox. While I identify with Fox much more than CNN, I’m smart enough to know that Fox is pretty fcking right wing. Sometimes I cringe at the shit Hannity or Carolson say... but I tend to cringe way more when Anderson is asking stormy daniels how the sex played out LOL “I spanked him”.
FWIW I could give two fcks about abortion. Too many morons in this world weren’t meant to have kids and it seems like they’re the ones that can’t stop getting preggo / knocking girls up.
What I care about is my tax dollars going to these losers to support abortions. Or paying for my loser ass ex girlfriends birth control because she’s too lazy to put the bottle down and get a real job instead of serving tables.
Great point. I agree
I did not have a chance to read every post in this thread. But I think there's 2 major claims that are both true and not mutually exclusive.
BobTheBaker is right that on overall metrics of quality of life and equality for minorities, America is far better off now than it was before. Technology, higher standard of living, legal protections for minorities, general acceptance of diversity, have all been extremely positive developments. I don't think dm100 was disputing those points.
What dm100 is getting at (albeit his tone and language were a bit hyperbolic and sarcastic at times) and a sentiment that I agree with, is that America is culturally and socially fractured in a way not seen since the late 60's. I don't think liberals are entirely at blame for this, as that would be patently unfair. My general theory is that technology-in particular the Internet and social media-have allowed us to escape and withdraw into our bubbles, reinforcing our existing views and biases. Twitter and Facebook are great examples of this. How many of your Facebook "friends" and people you follow on Twitter, disagree with you fundamentally on policy and political philosophy? Probably not many.
In addition, there are 2 other variables that have exacerbated this tension. The transformation of our economy from a manufacturing/labor one to an information one means that cities with robust human capital and resources will generate the vast majority of the "desirable" jobs and the well-educated will flock to those cities while the rest are left behind. This development continues to accelerate, and with it, the nation becomes increasingly polarized along cleavages of urban/rural, education, and job. This is not to say that racial divisions don't exit; of course they do. But a white Ivy League graduate working at a big tech firm in SF, for instance, has more in common with his black and Asian co-workers than he does with a working class white person in rural Alabama. They might as well be living in different universes.
In addition, and this is a politically incorrect opinion that runs counter to liberal orthodoxy, I believe that the mass importation of legal immigrants (around 1 million/year), many of them from countries very different culturally from the U.S., has been detrimental to our national cohesion. With such a continuous stream of immigrants, assimilation on the macro level becomes extremely difficult. And unlike the European immigrants of the late 19th and early 20th century, the recent immigrants can easily stay in touch with their homeland due to technology and cheap flights. You simply cannot have a strong national identity and a common set of values if a sizable chunk of the population is still deeply embedded within the mores and customs of their home countries.
That include you, Brady? After all, you're a first generation immigrant, and you seem to be deeply unhappy with the culture of today's America.
For anyone to say that “the racial divide has never been this bad. Ever.“ is simply laughable and absurd. How about during slavery? Or Jim Crow? Etc. You simply cannot engage with someone who says something like that because they are clearly a blithering idiot.
— ‘never argue with an idiot, onlookers wont be able to tell the difference.'
Or, if you prefer: — 'Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.'
Bit of a derailment but it never ends:

Challenge the guy on his record, if at all, not for being a white man in a profession overwhelmingly dominated by white men.
