Is There Unbiased News?
With the 2024 election fast approaching, where do you all get your news from? I feel like my Twitter/X recommended feed is just an echo chamber of the same opinion repeated over and over. I try to turn on the TV and it is just far left talking points from CNN and far right talking points from Fox News.
Any recommendations on where to get your politics from? Preferably the smaller/newer the company the better so they are not tainted by pressure from sponsors.
Are you open to getting your news in email newsletter form? All of the below have terrible social medias for instant news but are great for a morning email.
If so, I get high-level summaries from www (dot) MorningBrew (dot) com but they don't really deep dive on any particular topic or news story - also they are not new/small (think they sold for $75m to Insider - which definitely has a political bias).
A newer one I subscribed to is called www (dot) ShowBothSides (dot) com but they are super new. They do a weekly breakdown showing political takes from both sides and try to show which one is closer to the truth - they seem very unbiased - but they only really cover US-related news.
www (dot) internationalintrigue (dot) io covers international news great but is a little dry. They make complex topics seem pretty simple.
For instant news why not try just creating a brand new X Profile and then just not follow anyone left or right leaning? Worth a try because going back to the TV for instant news is just the same talking points over and over.
I am back in the office/no longer remote so I don’t mind email newsletters (can’t watch the TV). I’ll subscribe to all three.
I ended up reading all three for a while now - all good recommendations - thank you!

WSJ
Feel like this has to be a troll.
Bro doesn't read WSJ LOL
Not saying wsj is bad but its definitely biased hahaha. That's a crazy/troll take to say otherwise
The only unbiased news is live feeds and raw data sources. Everything else is commentary....it comes down to who's commentary you find reliable enough to be worth your time. To be really honest, most people are so hung up on THEIR OWN biases that they can't see objectively, so it makes little difference if an information source is biased or not.
Said another way: the smart way to get information is to have lots and lots of sources. Relying on any one person or group to tell you what's going on is childish. Get as many views and data as you can and then use your brain. And remember: the reward for getting it right is go be in touch with reality, be able to make predictions, and to benefit from those predictions. Otherwise....why bother? Might as well focus on a hobby and let the world go fuck itself.
Agreed! I just don’t want to spend all day consuming news. If I could just get a couple of sources (close to centre/middle/moderate/unbiased/any other buzzword I can use) that would be ideal.
Most reputable news sources are going to have a liberal bias just because those who go into journalism tend to have a progressive worldview. But AP News is pretty good about reporting the facts because they are a news aggregator that a lot of publications use, conservative or liberal
This is a newer phenomenon. The news business used to be a blue collar business. Today, major news organizations recruit out of "elite" liberal universities where they can pay rich kids crappy salaries because the rich kids can afford it and their parents are happy to subsidize their kids' prestigious jobs. The New York Times, for example, is full of Ivy League resumes. This was not the case just 40 or 50 years ago.
Agreed - my grandfather was a reporter and it felt much different in his day than it is today when hearing his stories with his coworkers
Agreed on the recruiting process and the impact on reporting - I’ll try AP out! Thank you
