I've made up my mind. I want to start smoking, where should I begin?

Might sound weird but I love alcohol so much but I need a new vice and I wonder what else I am missing out on constantly. Everyone I know tells me cigars/cigarettes make drinking/sex/music better when paired with alcohol and I want to see that.

I don't really do hard drugs as they impair you too much and cigars/cigarettes seems like the next best alternative. I see so many people say its the best feeling ever and I am too curious to go through my life without that feeling. IDGAF about cancer or dying in my 60s/70s, I know the lifestyle I lead and I don't think i'll be the most happy 90 year old.

I don't want to become a full on addict so I was thinking of starting with cigars, does that make sense? Or should I start smoking cigarettes every time I drink.

im gonna preface with this by saying as someone who has been smoking since 16 its a nasty habit and definitely one i would never recommend anyone to start. beyond the health consequences, there are the very real effects of nicotine addiction as well as the social ostracization, oh and the smell will make at least half the population not want to be near you. with that being said, cigars are absolute trash in my opinion ill never understand the hype, beyond a blunt i dont see why anyone would every buy them. cigs on the other hand offer you a pretty wide range of options. personally ive always loved spirits but for a new smoker id start with anything menthol, and probably light. marb greens/spirit light greens are a pretty good entry point. marb golds if youre a sorority girl or spirit yellows if youre a navy seal. cigs drunk are a TON better when you arent actually a regular smoker, and (cant speak from experience on this) but from what it seems juul/vuse rips give you the same experience when drunk without having to deposit tar into your lungs and the taste is much less off putting for new comers (also just way more socially acceptable). again please dont actually start smoking because its really fucking hard to stop and even easier to relapse. you may not care about leading a long life now but if youre lucky enough to some day have kids or even grand kids you might want to stick around for them longer than you think. also wanting to pretty much jump start an addiction because other people tell you its fun is probably not a good idea.

I don't think I want to start smoking full time probably just when I'm drunk. A few of my friends do it and they're not addicted so i'll probably start there. Is it true that cigars are safer? Because you don't inhale as deeply.

the two main issues with smoking are mouth cancers and lung disease, cigars youre potentially actually more likely to develop the former and pretty much wont develop the latter. so yes in the same sense id rather get shot in the chest by a 22 than a 45 but either way id rather not get shot in the chest. also dont underestimate the slippery slope.

weed smoke is less harmful to your lungs and has significantly less tar than even the "low tar" cigs like marb golds so its better and so many fronts. being crossed is a special state when done tastefully too.

Also, if you use a bong, it filters out most of the smoke. If you use a Volcano, it is one of the healthiest options - hospitals use Volcanos.

Weed kills any ambition you have

This isn’t true.

The other things to do with my money like cocaine, prostitutes and other hard drugs are too inhibiting even though they provide a lot of pleasure.

I already travel and spend time with friends and family, which I love. But like another user said, I am seeking a new rush of pleasure which I think smoking is the best as it doesn't get you high.

Try cocaine some time, fuck the cigs. Im giving you bad advice btw just to be clear

Ex smoker here: don't do it.  Bumming a few cigs while drinking is the way to go.  Becoming a regular smoker though....it blows.  The health stuff is bad enough but literally within months of becoming addicted you'll start to hate it.  You'd frankly be better off taking up weed instead of tobacco, at least that's interesting.  All smoking does after a while is cost money, ruin your mood, stain your teeth, stink up your breath, depress you and give you anxiety.....and drive all the hot chicks away.  Tobacco is for old farts with nothing left to live for.

If you really want a new vice that's not ganja, I'd say try day drinking.  A half shot of whiskey at random times throughout the day is fantastic.  Sip a Guinness while you lift weights.  Put some Bailey's in your morning coffee.  Nursing a couple gin&tonic during morning calls and then passing out on your lunch break is divine.  The three martini lunch may be gone forever but you can run a 21st century low grade buzz and still be productive.  NOT SPEAKING FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE but I've heard it's the way to go. Plus it lowers your blood  pressure and cholesterol.

I think I am going to go the way of bumming a few cigs while drinking. The side effects of full blown addiction has been outlined clearly on here and reddit. I thought before that for me to enjoy bumming a few cigs while drinking I had to already be an active smoker.

Also from listening to Bill Burr, I don't want to play with day drinking, he made it clear how easily it can consume you and I never want to put myself in a position where I have to stop drinking altogether.

My older brother does it the way you described and I worry he might go off the deep end and I see myself having one or more bad days and descending into needing a fifth of vodka when I wake up.

Yeah I hear you, sometimes the "kick" ain't worth it.  A beer and a burger here and there for lunch while networking isn't going to kill you but I came from a town full of alcoholics and it's pretty clear where that road leads.  But then, I just cut down a dozen trees on my property so I could axe them into firewood and manually dig out the roots...and then plant more, partly because free firewood but mostly because I like sweating my balls off in the summer heat....so there are probably people out there with a different idea of "fun"

There are so many reasons not to pick up a habit like smoking.  Since you have already said you do not care about cancer and death, there is no need to comment on that aspect.  If you smoke, your clothes and body are going to reek of smoke.  As a result, half of the female population will not want to date you, especially the educated ones.

I'm always shocked when I go on Bumble or some other dating app and see around half of the women my age (21-25) smoke "socially" or sometimes even "often". Not even just weed but cigarettes too. Absolutely nasty stuff. You'll die earlier and your mouth will smell like an ashtray.
