So I have experience with banking pre-COVID, and I really didn’t start getting these same dreams until starting WFH. Now that my desktop setup is feet from my bed, If I just rolled off my chair and into bed to try and immediately fall asleep more often than not I got really bad work dreams (esp. If very stressed).

might get MS for this but in my mind, two solutions exist:

1: like pre-Covid, stay in the office until you’re done with work for the night, so you can associate physically leaving the office with logging off for the night. Gives you a few minutes to decompress in the Uber home and allows you to maintain a clear division of work being at work and home being at home. Otherwise, if you’re working from home, try and dedicate 15-20’ to read a book, meditate, pray etc once you’re done and try to fall asleep “on your own terms”

2: don’t work in your bedroom, but that’s easier said than done for most new grads who can’t afford that luxury

When I was recovering from surgery I played hours of Tetris a day. I began playing games in my head 24/7, and all my dreams were Tetris related. It was a cool couple months - I literally was playing complete 20-30 minute games of Tetris in my mind no matter what I was doing. There have been experiments and studies regarding Tetris in this regard.

Now for work dreams, I do relate to the above. My desk is no longer in my bedroom - it’s a 5 second walk to the living room, but I do feel like I don’t dream about excel anymore.

I had a dream about building a paper LBO during recruiting season before. It was just weird. The worst dream I had was taking a German exam(I never studied nor do I know German but a friend is mine is German so I know what it looks and sounds like) when I was having a fever. I had severe headache when looking at the long words. I woke up feeling extremely nauseous. I also had a similar experience with Chinese except I'm fluent in it.

Leave your work phone in the other room at night, or if you just have one phone, set it so that email notifications go to do not disturb after 12am (you can check it but they aren't assaulting you)

Take 15 min to wind down with a book, some tea, etc.

I used to do this too and getting work out of my last few minutes before bed helped a lot. That said, you apparently problem-solve during your sleep and I have on occasion woken up with a clear idea of how to do something on Excel I was struggling with the night before.

I had similar issues. Always been a bit of a vivid dreamer but instead of lucid happiness these are just stressful and I find I wake up the next morning unrested as well. What worked for me was removing my apple watch and silencing my phone after I signed off with all of my active teams for the night. Everyone's outlook pings for non-urgent stuff but I had a terrible habit of being startled regardless and waking up in a panic to check. Other than that, maybe try to have a hot tea with no caffeine to wind down. Not going to encourage recreational drug use but have heard that some people smoke before bed to chill out.

Happened to me when I worked in economic consulting, I would just imagine going through spreadsheets and editing formulas/functions, occasionally waking up and asking myself whether I remembered to save the file or if my cell references were correct or if I remembered to drag down the formula all the way...
