Monkeys - Need Advice

So I hate my job. I know many of you have heard this before, usually many times during the day, but I can attest that my job is actually sucking the life out of me. I am currently working for a tier 2 consulting firm (OW, S&O, PWC, etc.) and I cannot hate what I am doing more. While I am working on strategy projects and have had international travel (fyi just got out of undergrad last May), I hate the work I am doing. I need help in terms of what to do. My goal is hedge fund or running my own company eventually but my networking up to this point has been futile.

On that note, any suggestions on better networking ? Trust me I have tried many of the strategies on this site to no avail.

Let me know your thoughts or just take this as the rambling of a fool - thats your call.

The only thing aside from the norm that's helped me has been going to CFAI events and local oil/gas and trading happy hours. It's actually pretty astonishing how many of these events there are, and how quickly you can meet people and expand your network with little effort. I landed an interview last week for a pretty unbelievable opportunity I'd have never have heard of otherwise if not for talking to a guy from SF I met over a cup of whiskey at 6 pm. I'd say find an industry you like, and from there it's pretty easy to find these events. Just a thought, good luck

Not sure if you got my msg on LinkedIn, but would be happy to meet up sometime in person to chat. Also, take solace in the fact that you're not alone - three of the people I did on-boarding with have already quit, for the exact same reason you (and I) hate our jobs. Consulting at a tier 2 is kind of shit, even more so when corporate culture is equally shitty.

What type of startup do you want to do? There are thousands of business accelerators for you to join in. If you're looking at a tech startup then you can learn how to code on the weekends and on your flights.

Also, consulting doesn't really help you for a startup...the best way to prepare is to just...do it. Or to go to networking events to meet people who ARE doing it.

What city are you in?

Networking is extremely available to consultants. I know because I am one. when you're at airports, fire up the Sonar app and find people. Or just talk to people at Executive Lounges if you have status. There's so many opportunities available in consulting to meet new people vs. a normal job where you're at 1 location all day every day. It's definitely do-able man. And you can do it. And we're here for you every step of the way :)

How's the job hunt going?
