Mr or Sir in America ?

Non-native here.

When do people use Mr or Sir?

I for long believe Sir was common in America when talking to someone we don’t know personally. However we say "Mr. Trump".

Is it only used in B2C talk or very formal events?

Aren’t you a French dude in France desperate to break into EU IB? If you’re looking to work in US IBD, I’d suggest you do everything you can to break into London first (and then transfer), otherwise you’re literally attempting the impossible.

As for your question, neither are used in the US. Don’t use Sir or Mr. when networking with professionals, just use their name

You’re correct, but not for the US IB. Making it to US IB is far from what I’m aiming at, as you said it’s close to impossible to transfer from EU to US.

I actually asked the question not because of networking purposes but for general uses. And I get using only their names, but then what pronouns do you use instead of Sir/Mr. ?

If I was blind emailing somebody asking for something I would begin with "Good Morning, Mr. (Last Name)." Outside of that it's normal to use first names in the US.  If I were to email the CEO of S&P DJI right now my email would probably begin with "Hi Dan," and I would end the email with some sort of courtesy (Thanks, Regards, etc.) followed by a similarly shortened version of my first name.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

We use Mrs./Mr. when we reach out to partners we have never met before, during the initial meeting we informally switch to first names. Normally this isn't even announced or anything. F2F meetings would otherwise be weird if everybody used Mr./Mrs. .

This is purely for our meetings where the majority of people are on the same level of seniority.

Any discussions with startups or early stage companies don't even have Mr./Mrs. at any stage.

Don't call me a sir if I'm not your officer in a military/police organization. That's literally what it's short for.
