Post-Happy Hour Hangxiety

To all my fellow interns and analysts preparing to hit the desk,

I’ve recently been hung up on my experiences at company / group happy hours. Not sure if this is a common feeling, but every time I go out with my team as a summer analyst I am always worried the next day if I said or did anything at the event that may have put others off.

For context, I am not drinking nearly enough to be blacked out and I have clear memory of every happy hour. This may be to my detriment, because the next day I replay conversations I’ve had with full-timers in the group and wonder if I said something out of pocket to the point it turns me into a nervous wreck.

Am I the only one who has this feeling? Should I brush it off or be worried?

Sounds like you have anxiety issues. I'm not going to give you the generic bullshit advice of telling you to get professional help for it, even though we all should, but the reality is no one is thinking about you nor analyzing your behavior as much as you think they are. No one gives a shit about you, and that's a good thing. Now, when it comes to these type of work events, or any event you attend in life in which alcohol is involved, my advice to you is to continue doing what you're doing and drink moderately. Never, ever, be the drunkest guy in the room. It's not a good look. When I first started drinking at high school parties I always got the drunkest and it took me a few years to realize people aren't laughing with me..they're laughing at me.Sorry didn't mean to lecture. Just sharing my experience.
