Other commenter nailed it, throw half away to the tax man. I would then call a white shoe firm and get myself whatever top partner they have who specializes in this. Would head over to my WM group and tell them that my bucket size is too high for them now, and I'm throwing it into three categories: I'll take $100m for myself for fuck-you money and some purchases, I'll throw $300m to MS's PWM team so I don't get anxiety, and then I'll just launch the remainder into Skye Global or North Peak or whoever the fuck will either lose it all or make it $3 billion. Not like it really matters to me at that point.
Oh yeah, I'd also hire a 15+ 24/7 security team. The more I think about it, the more I really don't want to win the lottery
I think it varies state-by-state, no? If that was an option you bet your ass I'd do that. I love my family, but not even sure how many of them I would tell.

(CNN)The "world's largest lotto prize ever offered" -- an estimated $1.6 billion jackpot -- is now at stake in Saturday's Powerball drawing, the multi-state game operator said Friday.
The jackpot, which has a lump-sum option of an estimated $782.4 million, "breaks the world record for the Largest National Lottery Jackpot in the Guinness World Records," the participating California Lottery tweeted.

Once again there were no winning tickets that matched all six numbers drawn in Saturday night's Powerball drawing.
That means the jackpot rolls over to a new record grand prize of $1.9 billion for Monday's drawing, according to USA Today.
The cash value has risen to $929.1 million.

I just bought 45 tickets for Monday - I might buy more idk.
I downloaded this scanning app so I don’t have to check the numbers, you just scan the ticket and it tells you the dollar value.

Looks like the dream still lives on for a few more days...
I never play the lottery (it's a tax on the innumerate), but I might bite this time and buy one purely for the entertainment value...
In SC the proceeds go toward education. So it is a win/win playing.
"South Carolina’s Education Lottery was established in 2001. Since its establishment, proceeds from ticket sales, interest and unclaimed prizes have generated on average more than $300 million annually. These funds are used to support the state’s scholarship programs (LIFE, HOPE and Palmetto Fellows) as well as many other educational-related programs."

Seems like most HNW people have the private wealth management wings of big banks managing their money. I wonder what net worth you'd need to be at for that to be a better bet, net of fees, than just sticking it all in a couple of Vanguard funds.
I think it's less-so for any super secret investment strategic and more for all the administrative, accounting, tax, etc. headaches they also manage for you.
Keep 2% of the money for myself. Put the rest into a charitable trust where you can guide the distributions for the rest of your life. Employ yourself and a few good friends in the trust.
If literally God puts a billion dollars in my lap, I couldn't keep it. In fact, to keep it just for yourself despite not earning it seems like the easiest ticket to hell ever. Keep just 2% as a transaction fee / reward for giving the rest away.

Yeah on my gold ring I have "Matthew 16:26" inscribed: "What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world, but to lose his own soul."

I'd contact a lawyer on making it as private as possible. Does anyone know a good method for that?
You get a lawyer and then another lawyer to review the first one's work and make sure there's a scheme to collect with maximum privacy.
We already discussed this earlier in the thread.
Hint: file a trust online with some whack name and have the money go there so nobody would even know. Name the trust "404 Not Found" or "403 Forbidden" or "The kitty litter foundation" or something else stupid. If you have to go in person to collect the winnings? Pick a costume and wear the whole outfit if needed for the in-person part. Separate identities. I'm not saying don't be generous or gracious with the earnings, but the leeches can **** off.

Replace million with billion.
hahaha this is gold
A million used to be a lot in 1999.
that's the answer lol
spend half of it on taxes, unfortunately

I like my privacy. I think I’d be worse off with a public windfall like that.
It’s amazing how fast some people blow it assuming some kind of going concern along the way.
I'd skim MS PWM if I were you... they have data breach after data breach. I keep getting letters about it year after year
pays for my credit monitoring but still, not my first stop for a billion dollars
Is there no way to collect anonymously? I have read of some people who were able to do so for lottery wins.
I think it varies state-by-state, no? If that was an option you bet your ass I'd do that. I love my family, but not even sure how many of them I would tell.
I only want 2 things, that's all:
a) house with a lap pool in SoCal
b) art gallery with residential space in East Village NYC
Don’t forget horny 18 year olds Isaiah
2% interest in a high yield account is enough to live off lmao
Go to work tomorrow a billion dollars richer and a billion times more motivated

Motivated... to work on glitchy excel spreadsheets? WTF? I think it's time to re-evaluate your priorities.
I bought 50 tickets for Saturday’s drawing LFG

Welp, it's off to the store during half-time to see if I can be a record breaker and win beyond "because F you, that's why money"...
Nice. GL GL GL
After tax lump sum is $500M from what I've seen. Generally lotto payouts are .30/1.00 (pretax I believe). Terrible play bruh.
Remember to hop over NJ to buy your tickets everyone... winners can stay anonymous there
Start my own hedge fund 100%. Willing to blow it up (~50%)
$1.9 Billion now

I think it's like that in a lot of states, if not most. In VA at least apparently they make up 10% of schools' budgets.

I don't know about a billy, but I do know what I'd do with 96 Gs. I'd start my life with a brand new lease.

You need to name the trust after a common name. That way they spend time figuring out which John Doe the trust belongs to.
You have much to learn in this field. I can teach you, if you call me senpai.
