semi well off, no job a year post grad, what to do lol

Howdy,

Graduated 9 months ago from NYU lol and have had two PE internships at a upper MM and a MF. I have no idea what to do now since I kind of fucked off during the internships and didn't get return. I also didn't bother to network etc. to try to convert. I guess I wanted to travel/have fun too much? Looking back, finance is probably no go at this point since it's so late. I applied for law school but seems the cycle is brutal for t14 despite high 170's LSAT score.

Personally not 100% dying for a job, as currently receiving $20k/m from family and have a ~2mm condo paid off. However, esp on a forum like this, a long shot from being wealthy by any means.

Anyway, looking for advice on what there is to do? I've been just mostly traveling and doing fuck all for the last 9 months. Having some sort of a quarter life crisis I guess, and I should probably find a job since the day to day is starting to be boring and most of my friends are now employed/busy. Wouldn't hurt to make some money on my own as well, but all the jobs out there seem drab/very low pay for a new grad (I'm vain I suppose). Seems sales is the only thing I'm qualified to do now just glancing on Handshake. Worst case I'll go work at a walmart or something I guess... and try to apply to law school the year after again. Open to any and all input. Thanks.

If I was on a $240k a year allowance and had a $2M condo that’s paid off I would do literally anything other than being an office grunt.

Go write a novel, or try to start a music career, or take acting lessons, or get really into woodworking, or learn how to sail or fly and try to circumnavigate the globe. Do cool shit that will make you enjoy life, not the bullshit the rest of us have to tolerate so that we can enjoy life in our 50s and 60s.

OP don't be an office grunt at this state. Join an MMA gym, embrace the arts, pick up hobbies, meet new friends in these hobbies. Anything but sitting in a cube all day.

Were you in Stern? Maybe reach out to some NYU alumni on LinkedIn and get your ear to the ground about potential IB openings? Not necessarily EB or BB right off the bat but maybe a MM or smaller boutique? Maybe start at some semi-finance-adjacent corporate role?

If you were able to land internships at UMM and MF you have those names to your credit, plus you were able to pass the interviews. If your GPA was reasonable and you can still present well, maybe that’s an option for you. Or law school, as you said, assuming you truly want to be a lawyer because that’s a grueling process/career as well.

Going to go against the grain here and say that there’s nothing wrong with being motivated to build a career when you’re young. Even if you have family support, there’s a great deal to be said for making something on your own. I’d also consider setting aside a reasonable amount of the $20k per month to invest, after accounting for living expenses and fun (within reason of course).

Best of luck with everything!

If he’s in reasonable shape and a decent human being (which I get the sense he is) he shouldn’t have to do that.

Nothing more rewarding than a fulfilling relationship with a good woman.

240K a year without doing anything? Gang you can chill out for a year or two. Hell I’d work for a on profit or fashion. Do whatever you want.
