Should I transfer?

Hi

Im a rising freshman at University of Pennsylvania aka. Upenn/Penn. When I applied,I thought that their one university policy allowed me to switch between the undergraduate colleges so I randomly selected a science major-Biology- in the College of Arts and Sciences。However, I have found that my interest/career direction would be better be served with a finance major which would require that I tranfer internally to Wharton. Although I have yet to start my freshman year, I dont think that I would be able to attain the 3.8GPA that is needed to apply to transfer so I was wondering if I should apply to transfer elsewhere as well just in case my Wharton transfer is denied?I am considering Columbia,Yale ,Harvard and MIT mainly because I have never applied there before. Thanks for any feedback or advice you can provide!

You can easily get a job on Wall Street as a Biology major at uPenn. I would probably change your major to an easier one within the school of Arts and Sciences (ie: Economics).

Internal transfer at Penn is easy. Plenty of kids with 3.8 have done it. If you're concerned that you won't be able to pull off decent grades, how do you plan to apply elsewhere? External transfer will absolutely be harder.

You're only an incoming freshman. Try out the program first before you set your mind on transferring. I can't count the number of Penn freshmen I've talked to who want to transfer to Wharton before they even set foot on campus. You're not going to get a good first year experience if you arrive on campus with your mind set on transferring out of your current program. Wait until May, give it an honest try. Maybe you'll change your mind by then.
