hey monkeys, So I've quit my job and am going to take time off. This means I ought to try to brush up on modeling and reading finance books that I've neglected for some time. Any advice on which tablet I should get, that's good for reading books? Which ones have a good battery? And should I consider also a Kindle because it's good for reading PDFs and books with liquid ink?

I like real books.
I think an iPad might be a good choice. The normal (2018) model has an excellent battery life, a great screen and access to multiple ebook stores like Kindle, Kobo, Apple Education and Google Play Books. It is also quite cheap (at £260) and can last a very long time. My family still keeps their iPad 2 from 2011 and it does the basic things pretty well.I don't think you can load PDFs on a Kindle as fast as you can do on an iPad, as Kindles are only connected to the Amazon book store (you'll have to transfer it locally via USB), so that might be an important point.
Additionally, please note that there is an upcoming model that will be coming out in a few months, so you might want to wait until the 2019 model comes out.
I'm a Surface Pro 6 fan. The base model is currently only $800 with the cover included. (You need the cover) i5, 8gb of RAM and fanless. It only has a 128gb SSD, but you can get a 256gb MicroSD card for $30. In addition to being a good tablet, you can put full-on desktop Excel and Python on it, and build those models.
I have the Surface Laptop 2 for work and it’s great. The Pro would be fantastic.
Thanks man. I was looking at the Surface - maybe the Dell version. I think the advantage of Surface is that you can easily side-load content via the USB slots. How's the battery life? I've never been able to get a device that has any decent longevity to it.
I have an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and love it (im not even in the Apple ecosystem; I use thinkpads). Notability is great for taking notes but you can also upload PDFs and mark them up. For reading it can be a strain on the eyes, but I usually turn on night mode and I’m ok for long periods of reading. It’s an expensive investment though, but if you shop around you can find a 2018 model for less than the newest one. There’s also a “student” iPad for cheaper that is Apple Pencil compatible (I think all in less than 500 but I’m not sure).
