The Ascent of Money
Most of us don't have an extra five hours in our lives. We're all very busy and I'm sensitive to that. But some things are worth making time for, and the documentary based on The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson is one of those things. Rather than another post-mortem on the crisis, Ferguson delves into the very history of money, how many times we've been here before, and why we're destined to crash again. If you still have doubts, consider the fact that the documentary predicting the 2008 crash was in the middle of filming when the crash happened.
Here is a link to the 4+ hour documentary:

And here is a great Q&A with Ferguson about the crisis:
I read the book two years ago and have since been passing it around to all of my friends in the industry. We have all been marking it up as we read, and it has become an outlet for us to shoot ideas off of one another...I might have to make the time to watch the doc...thanks for the post.
Me like ! Im getting the whole series right now..
Btw Eddy, no more NSFW ? Was it too time consuming ?
Watched the documentary in my Multinational Financial Management course, and referenced it extensively in my thesis for the Real Estate Valuation course I took. The doc itself is very interesting, and does a good job tying the crisis in from a global perspective, without, as you mentioned, coming across as overly condemning.
Great Q&A. Don't necessarily agree with all of his points, but I really enjoyed his perspective and analysis.
NSFW will be back on Monday, guys.
On the plus side, I went back and watched all the old episodes.
A roommate of mine threw this on a couple year's ago having no idea how long it was. After a couple hours, I got a little restless and never ended up finishing it but what I saw was excellent. I'll probably end up reading the book at some point.
It's long but it is a must watch. As for reading the book fugetaboutit
Is the book not good or do you not like to read? I've heard pretty good stuff about it.
The book is great, but Ferguson is a career academic so the book is a tough read at times.
BTW damn you Eddie, I had been planning on recommending this on your next NSFW post.
Everyone also check out The Creature from Jekyll Island.
Yeah, I saw this 2 years ago. Made me an economics major.
He nails it with the bit about securitization and passing through around 15:45.
Hadn't heard this one yet. Thanks for the link.
Watched online in installments a couple months ago. Great stuff.
