The Tragedy of the Commons: The critique of humankind
With the recent spikes in oil prices, food and resources becoming more scarce, I think it becomes more evident that we are going to suffer on a global scale in future especially our offspring's. I 've recently read about the tragedy of the commons, which is a dilemma originating from the scene where manifold individuals, acting singly and judiciously achieving their own self-interest, will eventually exhaust a common finite resource, even when it is unmistakable that it is not in anyone's long-term interest for this to befall .This dilemma was explained by an influential ecologist Garrett Hardin The problem Garrett was allotting to was the blind-alley exponential human population growth. With growth comes an increase in human needs for energy, agriculture, dwelling and etc. As the earth is a limited size, this would result in an emptying of the earth’s resources, and terrible humanity suffering . Garrett debated that the only solution to this final problem is “mutual coercive agreement"exempli gratia all humans need to agree to limit family size for the sake of future generation
What do you personally think monkeys?
If I read that correctly at all, I think you're asking what we think about the inevitable dwindling of resources on planet Earth?
Economics has ruled us since the dawn of our existence. As resources begin to dwindle, the demand for research to find alternate sources of energy and nourishment will increase. They'll eventually find something and we'll go with it until the next best thing shows up (AKA innovation). In the meantime, we'll compensate by changing our lifestyles (smaller families, lower energy consumption, etc.).
Somewhere along the line we wind up building spaceships and living off the planet.
