What is your opinion of the health insurance CEO being killed?

I'm curious to see what WSO's opinion is on all of this. Tried to use neutral language in the title.

I suspect most here think it was wrong. I think WSO consists of a decent number of people who would have worked that CEO position (if they had a healthcare/insurance background), and/or economics students who just see the CEO dude as a rational agent doing his job & trying to not get fired.

Murder is not a good thing but I do not have much empathy for people who intentionally make life difficult for consumers.  I do not think Mangione is a hero or a villain.  I think something got messed up in his mind and he could no longer differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate behavior.  He could have become delusional.  How do you go from valedictorian of your high school and a graduate of Upenn to a premeditated murderer who could end up spending the rest of his life in prison

The part I don't understand is how he got caught. If you're that smart how can you not avoid getting caught?

The dude had no experience in committing crimes and did not know how to evade getting caught. Alternatively, he wanted to get caught.  Either way, to throw away your life is not a rational decision.
