What's the deal with all the names after cities/places

Received HR's email about future training schedules with bios of the incoming analyst class and I just couldn't help but to notice these people named after cities/places: Sydney, Brooklyn, Eyerusalem, Asia... I grew up knowing people with the most generic names but well I guess that aint the trend anymore.

I've seen people with all those names mentioned except for Eyerusalem (wtf)

I always thought the joke was they were named after where they were conceived.

In all seriousness, people want unique names for their "unique" kids, but there has been a backlash against names that are too unique, so what's the solution? City/place names are unique sounding but still familiar.

FWIW every girl I’ve met named “Dallas” has been a complete smoke

Names go through phases, just like everything else. Not many babies named Gertrude these days. If you were a 90s kid you probably knew a bunch of Brittany's / Jessica's / Ashley's, but those are basically extinct for girls born today.

Texas itself can also be a given name, though uncommon.

Many place names are quite good baby names, like Madison/Dallas for girl or Dayton/Denver for boy. I personally don't like names after countries/continents because of the uncalled for confusion but it seems that's what parents want nowadays. At least two kids from my mom's side of relatives were named India, my folks' next door neighbor named their new born daughter Chyna, I was like what lol
