Just wanted to point out that I think lack of corruption for any city in the US is going to be a really tough ask, regardless of whether it's run by Democrats or Republicans. Whether all corruption is equally bad though is also a debate worth having. Is it all bad? To a degree, yes, no one thinks it's good to incentivize conflicts of interest for personal gain by our elected officials. But is the corruption in a place like Chicago that allows a ghetto like the South Side to fester into an open wound that effects the rest of the city the same as some back alley deals being cut by an water commissioner somewhere in CA to get more favorable distribution rights for a group of farmers they happen to be buddy buddy with? I don't think they're necessarily operating on the same scale in that regard.

For my vote though, I think Nashville is pretty nice all things considered. I've thought about buying a place there.

Most people won't believe me when I say it, but New York City is remarkably safe.  In fact, it's safer than the average medium or small town, rural area, and was even safer than the suburbs until very recently.  It is also the safest of the large metros in the US (technically depends on what you consider "large")

nyc safety

Another thing that people don't take into account is that the New York metro is one of the only places in which the majority of people use public transport which is much safer than driving.  If you group vehicular accidents which are very high in the car dependent parts of the USA along with murders then NYC ends up being one of the safest places in America.

There is a perception that crime is high in NYC, and I think that comes from the fact that NYC is the biggest city in the US so people will talk about it more.  Nobody's hearing about crime in Oklahoma City for example even though it may be worse there.

Murder isn't the only measure of safety. According to these stats, NYC's violent crime rate is 5.21 per 1,000 residents vs 4 nationwide (that's 30% higher). In terms of homelessness, corruption, cleanliness, etc., are you going to believe the stats or your lying eyes? That said, places like Philadelphia and Newark make NYC look like paradise by comparison.

The Safest Cities in the US

"In its report, MoneyGeek ranked the safest large cities in America with populations over 300,000. This year, Honolulu was named the safest large city, with the lowest per-capita crime cost in the country—$528.

“Hawaii in general is extremely safe relative to other states with major metro areas,” says Milnes. “A number of factors can lead to any city being safe or dangerous, and while we didn’t look into the exact hows or whys of each city’s situation, Honolulu may be uniquely positioned due to its isolation from other major cities, and is among states with the strictest gun laws in the nation.”

Another thing going for Honolulu that it happens to share with the other safest cities: a high cost of living and a high standard of living. “Cities that have higher costs and standards of living tend to also have lower levels of violent crime,” says Milnes. “Overall what we’re seeing is that the cities that have both a higher cost of living and a more suburban-feel than our major metro areas tend to be safer. This is likely to be even more true for specific neighborhoods or sections of cities.”

I don't think that's the right explanation to but maybe there's some degree of truth to it, not due to race specifically but because they don't have a long-standing demographic that's experienced prolonged economic hardship which increases the likelihood of crime. I think the bigger ones are 1) you're on an island, if you piss a bunch of people off you're not getting far, and 2) have you seen Samoans? They wreck your fucking shit then go have a barbecue with the boys like nothing even happened. Genuinely the last group of people on the planet I would choose to fuck with, along with other historically war-built islanders like the Māori.

2733278823 What's The Most Well Ran City In America?

This irks me a bit. Isn't the right phrase "well run city"?

You are right, the correct tense in this example would be well-run. It would be accurate to say well-ran if he used a past tense qualifier like "what was the most well-ran city in the 1990s" or something like that.

1) A city that has a population of less than 300k. (More money more problems (More people = more money from taxes))

2) A city where the winters are relatively cold. (Low homeless population)

3) A city with thriving technology companies. (High per capita income)

4) A city with a decent college. (Supports the area's workforce)
